BASHLEY 'A' Vs HYTHE UNDER 13'S

17th July @ Bashley Park

Easy For The Foresters

The last league match of the season saw us trekking back across the Forest to Bashley - to the dreaded artificial pitch. Prior to the match starting the green caps were pretty certain of a whitewash, all except their Manager that was. Captain Smith went out for the toss - won, and bravely, given our last outing here, elected to bat.

As it was the last game, and as some players had gone the whole season without much of a bat, Richie decided to let the lads choose their own batting order.  “Who wants to open?” said ‘The Legend’ Froggett, Zac Millar’s hand was first up - quickly retracted - but too late - he was No.1 along with George Podrouma at No.2, whose H & D CC batting experience in the league to date had consisted of one marvellous shot at the end of our previous mauling at Bashley - unfortunately hit straight to a fielder who would have had time to tie his shoe laces and still catch it - it was so long in the air.

If Bashley A thought it was going to be easy rolling us over, they were wrong - Millar and Prodouma stuck like barnacles to the bottom of a boat, leaving the opening bowlers struggling for a breakthrough. Yapp - bowler No. 5 for Bashley struck in the 9th over with Podrouma No.2 ( for 16) and Nicholas at No.3 (for 1) bowled and caught respectively.

A stalwart 7 from Millar, a useful 13 not out from Chalmers, a 6 from Jones and 3 not out from Smith saw H & D CC finish on 68 from their total 18 overs.  Much more respectable by far - on the same - but much drier artificial wicket, particularly when you consider that this lot bowled out Pylewell Park B for 9 runs.

It took Bashley 7 overs to polish off the 69 required but Hythe managed 2 wickets - opening bat Anstee was caught by Millar from Griffin’s first over; No.2 Rapson retired with 30; comedy run out during Nicholas’s .4 of an over saw Taylor out for 1.

All in all - considering the psychological and league position advantage that Bashley had - a perky performance from the team for the last league match of the all-to-short season.

Thanks to everyone that helped us out this season and to the parents for their support, encouragement and transport - much appreciated.
