Batting Too Strong For Hythe
Fawley'
s batsman gave Hythe a lesson on how to deal with crap bowling as
they won this Twenty20 game by 57 runs. Chiv blames his own team
selection for the defeat as the Green Caps ended up with 5 wicket
keepers and only 4 regular bowlers in the side. Things got worse
as Hythe had to field the first 5 overs with 10 men as Richie
Froggett was held up in traffic.
Hythe took to the field on a sunny evening after
Fawley elected to bat first. Richard Last opened the bowling in
the absence of Richie Froggett but Davbe Streather and E.Knacke
gave him a hard time taking 26 off his first 2 overs. Chalky
White at the other end continued his fine form and had a stroke
of luck with the first wicket running out Knacke by rebounding
the ball onto the stumps. Fawley 35 for 1 off only 3.4 overs.
Fawley with their County 1 top five batsman then
brought Andy Parratt to the crease fresh from his ton on
Saturday. Parratt wasted no time finding the boundary as Mills
gets hit for 8 off his first over. At 61 Fawley lost their second
wicket when Page brilliantly caught Streather off Mills for 21.
Rob Leach another ton maker at the weekend came in at 4
immeadiately hitting Mills for 6. White finished his spell of 4
overs 0-20.
At the half way mark Fawley were 96 for 2 with
Parratt and Leach going well but on 44 Parratt was caught by Kev
James off the bowling of Howe - his innings included 4 fours and
3 sixes. for 44. Smith joined Leach who brought up his fifty with
a 6. But on 51 he was excellently caught by Mills off Froggett
which even had the Fawley boys applauding. Froggett also claimed
the wicket of Earl for 6 caught again by Luke Mills.
Froggetts introduction certainly helped keep the
score down - just 15 coming from the last 5 overs which at one
time looked to be going over the 200 mark. Fawley finishing on
183 for 7
As Kev James and Guru Tongs took to the field to
bat the jokes were about could we have another Brixham and a
early run out. 4 balls later and Kev James run out for 1 (But not
the Guru's fault) Things didn't get better as Mike Graham got a
beauty from left arm Ben Bolton. Hythe 9 for 2 which soon became
17 for 4 as Page went for 4 and Robbie James a duck both caught
off Bolton.
Tongs was still there though and hit four lovely
boundaries but when Rich Froggett came in at 6 his boundaries
dried up completely. The pair put on 35 in 8 overs to take Hythe
to 62 for 4 at the half way mark. Tongs was then caught by Godden
for 32 and though North (14) and Froggett (39) added 44 for the
6th wicket it was game over. Hythe finished on 126 for 8 with
both Richard Last & Luke Mills 7 not out. Hythe well beaten
by 57 runs and Fawley again for another year 'Kings of the
Waterside at Twenty20'
