HYTHE & DIBDEN 2nd XI vs BRANSGORE

19th July 2008

HYTHE MADE TO WORK HARD FOR WIN

Hythe 2nd XI recorded a 5th win of the season against a young Bransgore side at Jones Lane but in doing so were made to work hard to get the 99 runs needed for victory. Wayne Effeny top scored for Hythe with 34.

Hythe won the toss and elected to field first.

Mike Edwards and Wayne Effeny opened the bowling but despite passing the edge of the bat on many occasions their only success was the wicket which fell in the first over to Edwards. Bransgore looked to have laid the foundations of a good total when they were 61 for 1 at 19 overs but once Ian White made the breakthrough, wickets then fell steadily as the inexperience of the Bransgore youngsters, particularly their running between the wickets began to show. Greg Woods and Pete Stevens snr were the other wicket takers as Bransgore were restricted to 98 all out from 39 overs.

Catches were taken by Ian White and Greg Woods. Gary Howe had a stumping, Tom Porter and Russell Moore (2) threw for the run outs and Mike Edwards, Ian White and Pete Stevens snr each clean bowled one victim in a good all round team performance.

In reply Tom Porter (16) and Sean Tongs (7) started positively before Tongs was caught mis- timing a drive. Wayne Effeny who went on to top score with 34 and Porter took Hythe halfway to the required total before Porter was clean bowled. Three LBW decisions then followed as Mike Edwards (1), Mike Bowman (9) and Effeny all returned to the pavilion leaving Dennis Wheeler (11*) and Pete Stevens snr (9*) as the undefeated batsmen with Hythe reaching 99 for 5 in the 28th over thus completing a 5 wicket victory.
