HYTHE'S KIERAN
CHALMERS STARS FOR REP SIDE
As the colts
league season draws to a close the New Forest District Side begin
their summer of youth festivals. Once again Hythe are represented
by Under 13 star Kieran Chalmers.
On
Sunday the New Forest District
played Winchester District in a friendly at St Cross Cricket Club
near Winchester. The game was played over 32 overs a side and
Winchester batted first mading 142 for 8. With Winchester
already 3 down Kieran came onto bowl.
After 3 overs and 4
balls of a 4 over spell Kieran was wicket-less despite beating
the Winchester batsmen a number of times and only conceding 9
runs in the process. However, 2 clean bowled wickets in 2 balls
turned a good tight spell into something more special.
Kieran was then given one of the last couple of overs to
see if he could land the hatrick delivery. Unfortunately it
wasn't to be and the Winchester batsmen glanced it off his
legs for 4. He repeated the shot again a couple of
deliveries later straddled by a couple of wides from Kieran
which must have been sighters presumably as he then clean
bowled his 3rd wicket of the match. That left Kieran
with figures of 5 overs for 19 runs with 3
wickets taken an impressive return from a player who plays
his club cricket for one of the minnows.
New Forest inning got
off to an extremely cautious start and at half way we were way
off the pace at only 42 for 2! That meant we needed 101 runs
from the second half of our innings which was a tall ask.
However, the New Forest made a good fist of it only falling
short by 11 runs @ 131 for 7. Sadly Kieran batting down at 10
never got a chance to shine with the bat but his bowling had
stamped his name in the side.
Earlier this season
New Forest entertained Dorset B at Woodside Park in Lymington.
New Forest won that match fairly convincingly with Kieran bowling
impressice figures again of 4 overs for 9 runs with 1
wicket.
Next game is a
friendly against South Wiltshire in Salisbury on Sunday 27th July
followed by 3-45 over matches against the other Hampshire
districts to be played at New Milton starting on Monday 28th
July...........if selected said dad but how can they leave him
out !!
