Twenty20
Cracker One Bright Spot of Damp Tour
Thanks
to Andy and Brixham for getting this game on as Hythe &
Dibden pulled off a terrific one run win over Brixham on Tuesday
night to brighten a dismal rain effected tour. Richie Froggett
(47) and Simon Wright (31) put on 55 for the 5th wicket as Hythe
scored a disappointing 115 all out in their 20 overs. Brixham got
off to a cracking start 31 off 4 before Simon Wright 0-12 off 4
and Simon Dixon 1-13 off 4 pulled Hythe back into the game. With
13 needed off the last over Richard Last held his nerve and Hythe
won by 1 run.

On a sunny evening Robbie James won the toss and
decided to bat first against a mixed Brixham side who had already
reached two Twenty20 finals later this month and were playing in
their coloured clothing. Brixham agreed to play 12 a side so more
Hythe lads could get a game in on tour.
Hythe opened with Sean Tongs and Simon Wright
looking to get off to a fast start but Hythe got off to the worse
possible start when Tongs was out for run out for 0. James Page
came in at 3 and hit two cracking fours in a quick innings of 17
- Hythe 25 for 2 off 5.which then became 25 for 3 as Matt Howe
got a first baller.
Richie Froggett came in at 5 to join Wrighty and
the pair put on a fourth wicket stand of 55 in 5 overs before
Wright was out caught on the boundary for 31 which included 3
fours and a six. Hythe 80 for 4 off 11.
Froggett continued to dominate the bowlers but
Hythe started to lose wickets at a regular pace. Ewan Bell was
bowled by Dallow for 1 and skipper Robbie James bowled by
Robinson for 1. Hythe now 104 for 6 off 15 overs. With Froggett
closing in on a very good fifty someone decided to put 47 up on
the scoreboard for batsman number 5. As per Purbrook when he was
on 98 Froggie chocked and was next man out for 47 caught by Ward.
Hythe's tail then folded - Last 5, Stevens first ball 0, Moore 0
and Hythe finished on a disappointing 115 for 10 wickets.
As the sky darkened the Green Caps took to the
field looking for a bowling inspiration. Weallo looking forward
to the tour all season opened up the bowling but his first two
balls went for fours and 12 off his first over. Pete Stevens jnr
opened at the other end and bowled well only letting a single off
his first 6 balls. At the three over stage Brixham 24 for 0 as
Weallo second over goes for 10. But Stevens got the breakthrough
in the fourth when he bowled Sleep for 10.
Simon Wright replaced Weal and quickly got into
his rhythem. Stevens finished with 1-14 off 3 as Robbie James
pulled what was to be the trump card out of the hat by replacing
him with 'small hands' Dixon. The next 7 overs going for just 17
runs and Dixon claiming the big wicket of Northcott well caught
in the deep by the juggling Pete Stevens to the amazement of the
Hythe players. Brixham 67 for 2 off 13 overs needing 47 off 7
with 8 wickets in hand.
Wrighty's 4 overs went for just 12 runs whilst
Dixie went for 1-13 off 4 overs ( Could he be the replacement for
Whits next season??) Russell Moore replaced Wrighty whilst Tinky
reframed from bring on Froggett and used Last as the final
bowler. Last claimed a wicket in his first over when Bell caught
Fowler for 10 and 2 runs later Pagey brilliantly run out Way for
14. Brixham 86 for 4 off 17 overs.
Brixham skipper and dangerman R.Ward came to the
crease and immeadiatley tried to reverse sweep Moore. 10 runs
came off the 18th over Brixham 96 for 4 needing 19 runs off 2
overs. Ward then gave an easy chance to Robbie James who spooned
it and everyone thought that could be the turning point but 7
runs and 5 balls later Moore caught Ward L.B.W and Hythe were
favourites.
Last over Brixham needing 13 to win. 'The Fonz'
had his chance to be the hero. The first three balls were perfect
with just one coming from them. Robinson then smacked the fourth
for six and when Lasty bowled a wide (with two byes) on the fifth
Brixham needed 3 off two balls. But the Fonz held his nerve and
two singles off the last two balls wern't enough and Hythe had
won by 1 run.
