Give Themselves To Much To Do At Hamble
Hythe
& Dibden First XI slipped to a 46 run defeat against a
rejuvenated Hamble side, after letting the home side post 30 runs
or so to many and then were unable to keep up with the run rate.
Batting first Hamble
got off to a flyer much like last year, and although Richie
Froggett held on to a stunning caught and bowled L.Don opening
the batting as a pinch hitter chanced his arm but
also scored freely aided by an exceptionally quick outfield
and Hythe bowlers Froggett & Jon Weall struggled to contain
him.
C.Mottola who had
joined Don at the wicket was batting sensibly and Hamble were now
set for a big total. Hythe skipper Simon Dixon turned to Paul
Whitlock in an attempt to control the run flow and this
proved a success as Whits gave both batsmen a torrid time
but typically without any luck as he went past the bat
on countless occasions. Ben Kendrick came in to the attack
and after struggling in his first few overs found a good length
and before long Hythe were back in the game. Kendrick removed Don
for 69 following an 111 partnership, then quickly had G. Khan
caught by Dixon for 8 before bowling Delimore for 4, and with
Whitlock controlling the other end Hamble were wobbling at 141-4.
Mottola and
G.Power took the score past 150 before Mottola fell to
Kendrick for a battling 51, then Whitlock finally got the
breakthrough he deserved removing Taylor for 2 and still had time
for another edge to go down, but Hythe now had Hamble at 168-7,
however Whits and Kendrick were now bowled out and Weall and
Froggett returned, unfortunately though Hythe let it slip as
Power 37 & K. Sequaira 24no lifted Hamble past 200 and
eventually to a decent total of 231-8.
Hythe needed a good
start in their chase and Si Dixon & Rob James put on a solid
62 for the first wicket before Dixon fell to Don for 33,
Matt Howe made a quick 23 trying to lift the run rate
as Hythe got themselves to 101-2 from 28 overs, Kev James and Rob
James then got the visitors up to 130 before Kev was caught
attempting to hit Don over the top for 14, but with 102 needed
just 13 overs something special was needed but Hamble's bowler
P.Lidstone removed Kendrick for just 1 and then Rob James for
60 and Hythe were now in trouble, last weeks hero with the
bat Froggett was unfortunately run out for 7 and although Ewan
Bell 14 and Whitlock 8 took Hythe up to 175, it was turning out
to be Lidstone's day as his tidy gentle medium pacers cut through
the Hythe batting and his 7-48 left the visitors all out for 185.
