HYTHE & DIBDEN UNDER 11's

Vs BASHLEY 'A'

Sunday 22nd June

Bashed by Bashley

Sunday morning, travel across the forest to Bashley Park to face Bashley 'A' and you know your going to be facing one of the best sides in the New Forest if not County at that age group. Last Sunday was to be no difference as Hythe Under 11's faced the daunting challenge of Bashley Rydal 'A'.

After the 83 run defeat Coach Tom Nicholas said 'We played another well organised team today and our own performance was below par'

Hythe won the toss and fielded against a strong batting side. Bashley scored 24 off the first 4 overs, Ben Fenton got the only wicket of the innings with a caught and bowled on the first ball of 3rd over, the next ball should have been caught but wasn’t and then a simple dropped catch in the next over summed up our fielding for the day.

The middle order batsmen increased the run rate with Sammy Laurent top scoring with 28 and Dom Woodlyn on 19. Sam Kelly for the second week running had decent figures only giving away 2 runs off his over. Archie ‘Happy Birthday’ Gilbert didn’t take any clean wickets today to keep the pressure on the Stumpy and Willow award contestants but still remains the top wicket taker for the U11’s.

Bashley ‘A’ ended up on 306 – 1, a score we were not going to reach.

Hythe went into bat and struggled all the way through the innings losing 5 wickets in total, to some accurate and reasonably paced bowling. Ali Bryers hit 6 runs and without losing a wicket ended up top scorer for H+D with 6 runs. A run total of +2 added to the 15 extras gave us a 217 – 5 and a defeat.

With two games to go with neither of the teams ending in ‘A’ we have a chance to improve on this performance, as the running between wickets and the extras we have given away has improved immensely over the season.
