HYTHE & DIBDEN UNDER 11's

Vs NEW MILTON 'A

Sunday 15th June

Back to Earth with a ‘Bounce’

After our win with Fawley we knew it was going to be difficult playing an unbeaten New Milton 'A team who had been playoing together for a few years and had maximum points from the games they had played so far this season

Hythe won the toss and fielded again, we were up against a team who had a long line in batting with most of them scoring good totals. Oli Nichols hit 24 and Alex ‘X’ hit 21 for New Milton ‘A’, they ran well between the wickets and totalled a score of 296 -1. Hythe’s bowling was reasonable, giving away only 6 wides and a total of 17 extras.

Wickets were hard to come by and the only one fell to a run out with Ali Bryers hitting the stumps directly.

Hythe went into bat and runs were hard to get with some quality bowling from the opposition, we lost 7 wickets in total with 3 run outs. The run outs although always disappointing, were a good sign of the players going for quick runs and the majority of the runs came from good calling and quick sprinting between the wickets.

The New Milton fielders were quick to the ball most of the time and when they did spill the ball the Hythe batters took the opportunity to take the extras. As JP said afterwards ‘It was probably the best batting the team had put together this season’. Archie Gilbert hit 12 but was run out once with a net total of 7, Harrison Smith top scored again with 9 runs and without losing his wicket. Hythe’s total in the end was an admirable 232 – 7, a good performance all round considering the opponents quality.
