Whits
Dominates As Hythe Cruise To Win
Hythe & Dibden
turned in yet another strong all round performance beating
Burridge by 86 runs with Paul Whitlock enjoying a great day with
both bat and ball.
Asked to bat
first Hythe openers Simon Dixon & Rob James yet
again got off to a good start, against some tidy if not
overly threatening bowling from Burridge, with a 43 run
partnership before the skipper, again looking good, was well
caught for 23, Matt Howe and James kept the score ticking over
and before long had added another 52 as Hythe
were now looking threatening but when Howe then fell for 17
trying to lift the pace and Simon Wright was unluckily run out
with out facing a delivery Hythe suddenly slipped to 95-3 from 26
overs.
Rob James sensibly
looked to bat through the innings and with brother Kev at the
wicket the pair moved Hythe to 123 when Burridge left arm spinner
had Rob adjudged lbw for a fine 60. Ewan Bell joined the in form
Kev James but when he fell run out for just 2 Hythe were
precariously placed at 130-5 with just 12 overs remaining, but
any thoughts Burridge had of taking over the game were
severely dashed as James and Paul Whitlock thumped 77 from the
next 9 overs with Whitlock in particular dominating the
bowling at 207 Kev was run out for an excellent 41 and at 208
Whitlock fell to Burridge's best bowler on the day N.Creal for a
splendid 48, and although Jon Weall fell lbw first ball Rich
Froggett with a quick-fire 17no took Hythe to max batting
points at 229-8.
In reply
Burridge themselves got off to a solid start putting on 44 for
the first wicket despite some good bowling from both Weall
& Froggett, but at 44 Froggett removed R.Cawte lbw for 21,
C.Mephan and C.White kept Burridge in the game and got to 75
before Whitlock struck having Mephan caught by Wright
for 28. The dangerous C.Slaughter was brought in to lift the
scoring rate but he was bowled by Whitlock for 4 and shortly
afterwards J.Wright was also bowled by Whitlock for just 1
to leave the home side reeling at 86-4. The Whitlock/Wright
bowling partnership was again looking impressive and at 114 Whits
struck for a fourth time having B.Lane well caught by Si
Dixon for 14, at 121 Wrighty got in on the act running
out Creal for 0 and then bowling the stubborn White for a
solid 33 and then P.Wilde for 1 leaving Burridge 128-8. Whits
still had time to complete his 5 for' bowling Bundy all end up
with a real jaffa, the returning Froggett then finished the game
having J.Houlton caught by Rob James for 2 as Burridge fell to
143 all out.
