Hythe Bounce Back In Style To Beat Hook

Congrats to the grounds team for getting a game on that looked very unlikely Friday night following the heavy rain over the past two days, and despite losing the toss on a damp wicket Hythe turned in a good performance with both bat and ball to get back to winning ways.

Hythe batting first put on 36 for the first wicket in trying conditions, before skipper Si Dixon fell for 10, and at 51 Matt Howe was next out but Rob James and Simon Wright put on 55 to take the home side past 100 before Wright who was looking very good fell for 25 and two runs later James became S. Cates second victim when lbw for a fine battling 54 leaving Hythe 114-5, Kev James kept the score ticking along and despite the loss of both E.Bell & R.Froggett cheaply both to A. Coates he found good support from P.Whitlock as the home side got to 160 before James was adjudged lbw for a very good 32, and with wickets falling at the other end Whitlock got Hythe to 170 before being last out for a useful 14 in the final over. A Coates 4-37 and S.Coates 3-40 were the pick of Hook's bowling.

J.Weall & R.Froggett then gave Hythe the start they needed in defending 170 picking up both openers cheaply as Hook quickly slipped to 22-2, but with B.Goodman and C Hall both looking dangerous it was not long before Si Dixon called upon Whitlock & Wright and the skippers decision worked well as Wright removed the very aggressive Hall for 23 well caught by Rob James, as well has running out the backing up S.Bruin for 1, Whitlock meanwhile who was keeping things tight at the other end had A.Townsend dropped before bowling him for 7 to leave Hythe in control at 70-5, at 89 Wright enjoying his best day as a bowler for the first XI had C.Stewart lbw and shortly afterwards removed the stubborn Goodman brilliantly caught by Dixon for 21.

Hythe were now in complete control at 99 Wright picked up his 5th wicket and the following over Whitlock deservedly pick up his second wicket as Hook were blown away for just 104. Wright 5-25 & Whitlock 2-27 doing the damage.
