HYTHE & DIBDEN UNDER 11's

Vs MUDEFORD

Sunday 1st June

Another Nail biter for Under 11's

The rain had cleared early in the morning and Hythe won the toss and put Mudeford into bat. Two early wickets were taken in the first two overs and this kept Mudeford’s score down, Mudeford struggled scoring and were still on 199 runs after the eighth over. Mudeford’s 3rd pair put on 3 runs but with extras they were on to 218 off 12 overs. Hythe’s bowling was generally good, taking 7 wickets in total. Archie Gilbert was the pick of the bunch with 3 wickets for 9 runs off his 3 overs.

Mudeford’s final pairing had a Dorset player who could bat and between them they hit 3 boundaries which were the only ones in the match. They put on 19 runs in their 4 overs with 12 of them coming off the last over.

A target off 237 was achievable and still with hope and fingers crossed we set out to get our first victory.

With only one wicket lost in the first 8 overs we had only reached 214 runs, another slow start but not out of it. The 3rd pair lost a couple of wickets and after 12 overs we were at 216 runs, only 2 runs behind at the same stage as Mudeford were. Alex and Harrison were left with the task of trying to achieve the target, 9 off the first over due to 8 extras helped the score along and at the end of the 15th over we were at 233 runs.

5 runs required for victory, two singles off the first two balls was a good start but unfortunately Harrison was bowled on the 3rd ball, the ball was off target but it hit his heel and hit the wicket. This left us with a target of 8 of 3 balls which we didn’t manage to get. Another close match which slipped away in the last over.

We will get our first victory, Mudeford got theirs today !!!
