HYTHE UNDER 15'S Vs PYLEWELL PARK

4th May @ Jones Lane, Hythe

Lack of Runs Under 15's Downfall

Hythe Under 15's opened their league season with a 7 wicket defeat at the hands of Pylewell Park on Sunday morning.

On a bright morning Pylewell Park won the toss and decided to field first on a slow paced wicket.

The Hythe batting started very slowly and tentatively. Captain Jonjo Stovell 0 fell early and a blow to Hythe was losing Sam Mead 9 and Matt Young 3. Harry Smith though played with caution and carried his bat through the innings for 21 runs.

A late surge from Smith and Tom Richards 12* took the Hythe total to 55 for 3 at the close but the total was never going to be enough.

Hythe opened the bowling with Stovell and Richards and started brightly with Stovell taking 2 early wickets. But at first change Harry Smith decided to try his hand at spin which was much to the liking of the Pylewell batsman. Despite Stovell claiming a third wicket Smiths 2 overs went for 16 and that was game over in just 10.4 overs.

Under 15's Coach Sally Harding described the first game of the season as a rusty performance from her side.' There was some dodgey running and calling in our batting with much indecision. Harry batted well and Sam Mead looked good for his 9 including a lovely boundary for four.Other than Tom Richards picking up the pace late on we were thirty runs short of a decent total'.

Sally also praised Jonjo Stovell for his 3-18 and thanked Gareth Mead for umpiring and Mrs Harmson for scoring at her first attempt, well-done, all.
