Going into the final game of the season Hythe First XI
were lying in second place 7 points behind the leaders Liss who
they beat comfortably earlier in the season. No one envisaged
what was to unfold 6 hours later. Hythe lost by 2 runs to Ryde
thanks to some dodgy umpiring decisions which meant they finished
fourth and out of the promotion race.
Such a shame as Hythe were clearly on their day the
top side in the division. Ben Kendrick finished 2nd
in the League averages, with Richie Froggett 5th
and Paul Whitlock 6th
as the bowlers again dominated. Nardus Grobler led the way with
the bat finishing in the Top 20 League batting & bowling
aves.
Mike Bowmans 2nd XI had a good season - gaining
promotion after finishing fourth and winning the New Forest Cup
for the first time.
The Under 17 Colts finished third in their league as
well - the highest a Hythe Colts side has finish since 1990.
