From the Evening leader :-
Mutton earns Nomads fine away day victory
CWMBRAN 0. CONNAH'S QUAY NOMADS 1.
11th Novenber 2006
TOMMY MUTTON grabbed the only goal of the game as Connah’s Quay Nomads continue to impress towards the top of the Premier League table.
Mutton took a superb through ball from Christian Seargeant to go through one-on-one with Cwmbran Town goalkeeper Gareth Wesson and slot home from 16 yards to give Nomads the 1-0 victory.
Nomads were much the better of the sides and should have grabbed a second goal to kill off the match when Phil Molyneux twice went through one -on-one with Wesson, but each time was foiled.
Craig Garside is starting to find his feet in Nomads’ midfield and saw an effort from 25 yards tipped over by Town man of the match Wesson, while Chris McGinn also had an effort saved.
After the break Nomads continued to play the better football in difficult windy conditions at Cwmbran Stadium and again Wesson impressed with two further saves to keep out Mutton.
And with 10 minutes remaining Nomads were nearly caught as Jody Jenkins went through on Paul Smith, but the stopper did well to make the save.
The win sees Nomads move back up to fourth and just four points behind leaders Llanelli.
Rhyl 2, Connah's Quay Nomads 0
Match Date: Tue 07 Nov 2006 Attendance: 390
Date: Tue 07 Nov 2006 Loosemores League Cup
Rhyl are through to the Loosemore's Challenge Cup semi final after defeating Connah's Quay at Belle Vue. The Lilywhites put their Welsh Cup defeat to Ton Pentre behind them to progress past Nev Powell's side, in an exciting battle.
The home side took the lead on 24 minutes when striker Lee Hunt struck, but then shortly before half time Rhyl defender Jamie Brewerton and former Rhyl midfielder Marc Limbert received their marching orders. The visitors were reduced to nine men in the second half when another former Lilywhite, Chris Taylor was also sent for an early shower and this triggered John Hulse's side to go for the proverbial jugular and they grabbed a second when Hunt completed his brace deep into injury time.

FAW Welsh Cup Round 3 Sat 4 November 2006 / Mendalgief Road
Nomads edge into last 16 NOMADS edged into the last 16 of the Welsh Cup at Mendalgief Road, where the art of finishing proved the difference between the two sides. In ace striker Tommy Mutton, the visitors possessed the player who simply had too much quality inside the penalty area for the Welsh League Division One outfit. Mutton has scored 101 goals in 185 full and 35 substitute appearances for a number of Welsh Premier League clubs and again showed why he’s been such a thorn in the side of every Gwent club he has played against. The 28-year-old has now scored goals against Cwmbran Town, Ebbw Vale, Newport County and Newport YMCA, although the latter could have spoilt his day had they shown more composure in front of goal. While the Nomads also twice struck woodwork, the YM squandered enough chances to have run the visitors much, much closer. On a better day, striker Aaron Stewart might have had a hat-trick and was denied one at the death when match referee Simon Jones blew for time as the ball was on its way into the back of the net from his volley. But in all honesty, the Nomads just about deserved this success which eventually earned them a fourth-round tie. After a pretty even opening 12 minutes, Nomads put their foot on the gas to score three times in 21 minutes and at that stage it looked like being a rout. But credit must go to the YM for plugging away and their efforts were rewarded before the interval when Faris Yafai got a slight touch on a Leon Spargo corner to give his side renewed hope.
Connah's Quay Nomads 1,Welshpool 3

WELSHPOOL ran in three goals in the space of seven minutes to pull off this shock win over form-side Nomads, previously unbeaten at home all season.
The fourth-from-top Deesiders were looking to go even higher but their big day was wrecked by a Welshpool side that knew how to take their chances.
And no one was keener to make his mark than former Nomads striker Calvin Davies. It was Davies who laid on the corner for Brett Jefferies to head Welshpool in front on 23 minutes and two minutes later Welshpool grabbed a second when Aiden Shannon broke down the middle and from 16 yards buried the ball in the net.
Worse followed for the shell-shocked Nomads when Calvin Davies beat the offside trap before hammering a left-foot shot into the top corner beyond stranded Paul Smith on the half-hour.
Nomads hauled themselves back a minute into the second half when a three-man move ended with Phil Molyneux beating the Welshpool cover for pace to make it 3-1 from twelve yards and trigger a stream of attacks by the rampant Deesiders.
Skipper Marc Limbert, Adam Dickinson and Craig Hutchinson all got in threatening shots to bring the best out of agile keeper Gerard McGuigan.
Welshpool suffered a blow when Aaron Stokoe was sent off on 57 minutes for a trip on Molyneux, leaving ten men to weather the storm. But they survived - and only a great save by Smith denied Calvin Davies a late fourth. |
| |
|
NOMADS skipper Marc Limbert hammered home a penalty 11 minutes from the end as the in-form Deesiders came from behind to continue their storming climb up the table.
Battling Caersws were full of fight and rocked their hosts by going in front through Mark Griffiths after a poor clearance by keeper Paul Smith gifted him a golden chance on nine minutes.
Dominant Nomads, beaten just once in the league all season, were kept waiting until five minutes before half-time for Adam Dickinson to blast a stunning volley from 20 yards past keeper Andy Mulliner to level.
Nomads forced two quick corners before a superb three-man move involving Garside, Limbert and Mutton ended with Craig Hutchinson powering home a diving header just two minutes after the break to fire Nomads ahead.
But back came Caersws for opportunist Neil Mitchell to make it all-square with a clever lob from 12 yards only for Craig Garside to restore Nomads' advantage as the goals came thick and fast.
Caersws were thrown a lifeline when Nomads defender Chris Williams flung himself spectacularly at a Chris Venables cross only to send the ball screaming into his own net with keeper Smith dumbfounded.
Game on again. Justice was done when Dickinson was upended by Colin Reynolds in the box for ice-cool Limbert to put away the decisive spot-kick, but what a struggle it was. |
The New Saints 5, Connah's Quay Nomads 3
From the Evening Leader:-
Nomads feel hard done by
TWO controversial goals and a disputed penalty saw Connah’s Quay Nomads go down 5-3 against The New Saints. Defeat at Treflan means Nomads finish in second spot behind TNS in Group B on goal difference and now face an away trip to take on Group A winners Rhyl in the quarter-final stages.
Nomads could have taken the lead on two minutes when Adam Dickinson played in Phil Molyneux, but his effort was just over the top, and then five minutes later TNS were ahead when Paul Smith could only parry Alfie Carter’s powerful drive and John Toner was first to react. Smith was then called into action to save from Barry Hogan, who had gone through one on one from a Carter through ball. Chris Williams headed a Molyneux cross wide, Graham Roche was off target as was Christian Sergeant as Nomads hit back. TNS’s Carter went through one on one with Smith, who again made the save and on the stroke of half time Nomads were back level as Williams hammered home from the edge of the area after his free kick had first hit the wall.
After the break Smith made a superb save to keep out Carter’s angled drive, before TNS regained the lead in controversial fashion. A ball was played down the touchline and looked to have gone out for a Nomads throw in by a clear yard, but play was allowed to continue and Hogan was on hand to take advantage and slot home. Four minutes later and Quay were again level after Molyneux and Chris McGinn combined to set up Sergeant, who turned on the edge of the area to score. TNS went back into the lead on 64 minutes when Carter pulled the ball back for Mike Wilde, the Nomads defence stopped waiting for a goal kick as the ball looked to have cross the dead-ball line but the goal stood. Molyneux’s long throw was hammered home by Dickinson to draw the game level at 3-3 moments later and McGinn should have put Nomads ahead but headed straight at Gerard Doherty. TNS were then awarded a disputed penalty by referee Brian Lawlor after Chris Taylor brought down Carter right on the edge of the area. Nicky Ward stepped up and smashed the ball beyond Smith. Three minutes before the end and Carter sealed the win after a 40 yard solo run to slot home, and then on 90 minutes Gary Lovell was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Carmarthen 1, Connah's Quay Nomads 3
Author: Westender Date: 15-10-06 10:56
The long journey to Camarthen was worthwhile. In a game played in warm sunshine, both teams started well. Nomads had the best of the early chances and Adam Dickinson opened the scoring with a smartly taken goal from the edge of the box. This opened the game up and Camarthen came back strongly and scored after Tommy Mutton was dispossessed in the Camarthen box and a quick break down the left resulted in a goal. When it looked as if the game might turn in Camarthen's favour, Dickinson scored a 2nd goal that should have been saved by Camarthen keeper Thomas, but he let the ball slip through his hands and into the net.
With Nomads 2-1 up at half time, Camarthen came out and upped the tempo, but Nomads back four held firm with Chris Williams putting in some timely tackles to stop Camarthen getting the equaliser. Carmarthen pressure began to tell and Nomads keeper Paul Smith had to make a one handed save of the match to keep Nomads lead intact. Both Tommy Mutton and Adam Dickinson went close with further chances for Nomads, then on 82 min's, Tommy Mutton scored a great solo goal on the break, slotting the ball under the Carmarthen keeper and making it 3-1. Mark Limbert also went close with a smart lob just over the bar and when it looked as if the game was over, the ref somehow found an extra ten minutes of injury time! Nomads stood firm and got a great win.
The Man of the Match decision was tough one. as many of the Nomads players played well. It was a choice between Adam Dickinson and 'Bungle' Williams and Willaims just shaded it.
From Evening Leader:- Match 6th Oct 2006
Connah’s Quay Nomads 3, Bangor City 0
GOALS from Adam Dickinson, Craig Garside and Tommy Mutton gave Connah’s Quay Nomads a 3-0 win at home over Bangor City to continue their good run of form. Nomads have lost just once so far this season in all competitions and were worthy winners over their north Wales rivals at Cae Castell.
However, the visitors were on top in the opening exchanges as Chris Williams was forced to clear a Clayton Blackmore free kick off the line. But Nomads opened the scoring with little more than 20 minutes gone as Dickinson stole in to volley home. And it could have got even better for Nomads as Mutton was just too high with an effort after being put through by Williams, but the second goal was only minutes away as Garside ran through on goal to drive his effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
To be fair to the visitors, they tried to battle back into the match and Blackmore saw another free kick just miss the upright. At the other end, Mutton had an effort tipped over the bar and then just before the break City were reduced to 10 men after Adam Blocker was booked for a tackle on Mutton, before kicking the ball away and was immediately being shown the red card.
After the break Mutton had another one on one smothered by Ian Harvard who then tipped a strike from Dickinson over the top for a corner as Nomads went in search of the all important third goal. And the goal came on 64 minutes when Marc Limbert’s cross found an unmarked Mutton to finish with some style. Marc Lloyd-Williams went one on one with Paul Smith but the home side stopper made the save, and Carl Jacobs fired wide soon after as Nomads held on for the win

Connah's Quay Nomads 7, Airbus 2 Clinical finishing was the difference between the two sides tonight.
In the first half, Nomads had most of the play and went in at halftime 3-0 up, with 2 goals from Dickinson and what looked to be an own goal.
Airbus started the second half strongly and were given what looked like a dubious penalty by the ref, which Hughes converted. Airbus then dominated the next 10-15 mins after half time. Sub Mutton scored a breakaway goal. Airbus though wouldnt die and scored again through Thompson. The ref then gave Nomads a penalty, when the foul looked to be outside the box, and sent off the bus player. Limbert scored 5-2. Late goals from Mcginn and Garside, rapped up a good performance from the Nomads, although Airbus also played their part in another good game at the Castell.

10-man Nomads fight back DESPITE being reduced to 10-men, Nomads battled back from a one-goal deficit to demp Aberystwyth out of the cup. In a scrappy affair on Deeside, the Seasiders took a 39th minute lead when Andy Evans volleyed into the roof of the net after being put through by Sion James. Chris Taylor's dismissal on the stroke of half-time seemed to hand the advantage to the Black and Greens, but the 10 men dominated the second period and Adam Dickinson fired the equaliser from an acute angle after 69 minutes. Nine minutes later, skipper Marc Limbert got the winner, cutting inside before unleashing a 12-yarder past keeper Richard Morgan. Worse was to follow for Aber, as an 84th minute fracas ended with captain Bari Morgan joining Taylor in the dressing rooms. |
Nomads into last eight - welsh-premier.com 26/9/06
NEWI Cefne Druids 0, Connah's Quay Nomads 1 CONNAH'S Quay became the first side to reach the last eight as they maintained their 100% group stage record at Plas Kynaston. Debutante Steve Forbes, signed from Archer FC last week, came off the bench to send a close range header past Druids' keeper Carl Edwards on 77 minutes for the only goal of the game. But despite the defeat, a depleted Druids had competed well and created the better openings, especially in the second-half. New signing Michael Burns headed across goal for Colin Quirke to force a great save from Nomads' keeper Paul Smith, while Mike Heverin failed to connect with an Osian Jones flick with the goal at his mercy. Heverin then found himself one-on-one with Smith but was unable to defeat the former Rhyl stopper and, when a long throw from the right caught the Druids' defence flat-footed, Forbes was on hand to take the spoils and end the home side's hopes of further progress.

Nomads defeated Airbus 3-2, in an amazing finish at the Airfield. Two late goals from, Limbert and centre-back Taylor, his first, gave Nomads men the points to break the hearts of the home side. Airbus started the better team and had two early chances to go ahead. One chance saw the forward roll the ball past the post as they opened up the static Nomads defence. The Nomads made the breakthrough after quarter of an hour when Right Back, Swanick took his chance well heading home a cross from Mutton from the left to give them the lead. They couldn't sustain the momentum though, looking decidedly out of sorts, and two minutes before the break Airbus responded with an equaliser. Striker Mapletoft netted after another a mix-up in the Nomads defence, by Pinch, and a mistake by Smith. Leaving the teams level 1-1 at the interval
Airbus were on top in the second half and deserved their lead, when half way through the second period Ryan Crawford struck, as once again a hesitant Nomads defence were caught out and Airbus looked as though they would go on to take all the points. Nomads, who had reverted back to 4-4-2 for the second half, pushed another man forward after the home side were reduced to ten men, following an off the ball incident. The sub was alleged to have struck Nomads Centre Back, Williams and the dismissal gave the visitors the opportunity to push for the equaliser, throwing Taylor up front in a 3-4-3 formation. After intense pressure, there was the double late show from Limbert and Taylor. The Nomads skipper, Limbert struck another excellent pile-driver into the bottom corner and, after the Nomads threw everything but the kitchen sink to get the winner, a frantic clearance fell to Taylor and he forced home the winner to leave the Airbus players devastated, Gaz Owen must be ruing some ill discipline for this unlikely, as It seemed, Airbus defeat.

A spirited performance from the Quay, 4-0 flattered the home side in the end. First half TNS were probably the better side, as they got the ball out wide and put some quality balls in to the box, but Nomads were by no means out of it. In the second half Nomads changed back to 4-4-2 and for the 1st 20 Min's they pinned the home side back. Tommy Mutton had a great chance to level the scores but he hit the bar from 6 yards out. Mark Lambert put cross after cross into the box but Nomads just couldn't find a way through. Then came the sucker punch, a break away and 2-0 A little disappointed that heads then dropped and 2 quickly became 4. Nev brought 3 subs on including Molyneaux, who chased everything and was unlucky to see a shot just go wide at the end. All in all a good performance from the Nomads and unlucky to get beat 4-0

Nomads looked more balanced from the start with Cooke out wide left and Dickenson playing up front and Swanick out on the right. They dominated the early stages and, were rewarded for the changes when Cooke put in a cross that wasn't cleared properly and Sargeant pounced to put them ahead. More pressure from the home side saw Limbert show his quality as he took advantage of hesitant defending to drive a shot into the corner. The game was marred when former Nomads player Mazzarella was taken off on a stretcher with what looked like damage to the same leg, this came at a time when Druids were putting Nomads under pressure with Smith called into action on a couple of occasions. The game was almost killed of in the final minutes of the first half when Dickenson won the ball and, found Cooke with a crossfield pass inside the the area, Cooke turned his man a drove a right foot shot past the keeper to give Nomads a 3-0 half time lead. Druids pushed another man forward in the second period to try to take something from the game and, to be fair to them they never stopped competing, making a contest of the half. Nomads though had more of the ball and created more chances but, couldn't add to their total. For their part Druids were always dangerous on set plays and, with the long ball. This time though Nomads had more height at the back and played al ittle deeper coping far better than last Friday. All in all a good all round performance from the Nomads and, a deserved win.

A VOLLEY from Carl Lamb’s ten minutes from time completed a Druids comeback against Connah’s Quay Nomads, which earned the club its first point of the season.
Nomads had led 2-0 at Plaskynaston Lane with goals from Tommy Mutton and Marc Limbert, but Mike Heverin’s penalty pulled a goal back before Lamb’s mint finish levelled the scores.
With Matthew Cook unavailable, Druids manager switched to a 4-3-3 formation with Darren Williams returning to join Heverin and Lamb up front.
The visitors, who looked to continue their unbeaten start to the season and started at a fast pace, took the lead on 20 minutes when Aled Rowlands’ attempted back header under pressure lacked any real pace allowing Phil Molyneux to capitalise and square the ball to the prolific Mutton, who had the simple task to tap home.
Druids, through Lamb, had three opportunities to level the scores before the break, but the striker was unable to capitalise in the one-on-one situations.
The lead was doubled four minutes after the interval when James Taylor’s headed clearance fell to Limbert on the edge of the box and the midfielder was able to control the ball before firing home, giving Carl Edwards in the Druids’ goal no chance.
Druids, though, were given a lifeline on 63 minutes with a seemingly harsh penalty award when Dave Swanick was adjudged to have fouled Lamb as he was shepherding the striker towards the goal line.
Undeterred, Heverin confidently struck the resulting spot kick hard and low to Paul Smith’s right to reduce the deficit.
The penalty award briefly spurred on the visitors, but it was short-lived as Druids once again took control of the game as they searched for an equaliser.
The search came to a fruitful conclusion on 80 minutes when a long ball forward was flicked on by Williams into the Nomads danger area, allowing Lamb to volley past Smith from 12 yards.
Druids pressed on for a winner and created the opportunities to maybe take the win that the performance deserved. Unfortunately, Williams headed wide before, a minute later, Lamb headed over.
Druids’ leading scorer then sent a lob over Smith in stoppage time which went just wide of the post before forcing the keeper into a fine save from a volley eight yards out, meaning that Druids had to settle for a point.

Connah's Quay Nomads 2, Caernarfon Town 2.
Wrexham Evening Leader, 4th Sept 2006
CONNAH’S QUAY NOMADS kept their unbeaten start to the season alive with a 2-2 draw at home with Caernarfon Town. However, it was a game that both sides will feel they could have taken all three points out of. Nomads, who made eight changes from the side that saw off The New Saints in midweek in the League Cup, opened much the stronger of the sides and carved out a series of chances in the first half an hour.
After just three minutes a short corner from Marc Limbert was laid off to Phil Molyneux by Craig Hutchinson, but his chip was just over the top. Limbert then hit a 25 yard free kick which was held by Paul Pritchard in the Canaries goal, before Tommy Mutton, who was well marshalled by Eifion Jones all match, saw a decent effort just wide from 16 yards. Molyneux headed over and both Gary Lovell and Chris Williams had strikes over the top before the visitors mounted their first real effort on Dimitri Brinias’ goal. And it came with a bang as on the half hour mark player/manager Waynne Phillips earned a corner which was taken by Richie Owen for Jones to meet and head into the back of the net. This served to wake Caernarfon up and they started to come more and more into the game, but not before Adam Dickinson found Molyneux in the box and he again headed an effort over the bar. Five minutes before the break Craig Roberts and Chris Jones linked well to set up Lee Jones, but the former Wrexham and Liverpool striker had a shot deflected for a corner.
After the break Nomads continued to press forward and Dickinson beat three men to set up Mutton, who was again off target from 12 yards. Lleyton Maxwell forced a good save out of Brinias at the other end and four minutes after the hour point, Mutton eventually levelled the scores. Gary O’Toole and Dickinson combined and Mutton fired home from six yards. Nomads should have taken the lead but O’Toole had a drive come back off the bar, a minute before Maxwell gave Town the lead from the penalty spot after he had his shirt pulled from a corner. But Nomads were not behind for long as Limbert sent over a corner which was headed down by Williams and Dickinson volleyed home from eight yards out. Anthony Warriner fired well over the top after beating three players, but with less than five minutes to go came the biggest talking point of the match. Lee Jones raced onto a long clearance from defence, beat Nomads backline and as he stooped to nod the ball forward in the area and was tackled by the covering Williams, who knocked Jones unconscious. Initially referee Huw Jones seemed to point for an indirect free kick to Nomads, and then for a corner. However, he soon settled on a free kick outside the box and gave Williams a straight red card. Phillips was protesting for a penalty and was booked, and when calm was restored the free kick was defended and the points were shared.
Connah's Quay Nomads 2, The New Saints 1.
Wrexham Evening Leader, 30th Sept 2006
A MUCH changed Connah’s Quay Nomads kept up their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 win at home over The New Saints in Group B of the League Cup.
Late goals from Gary O’Toole and Calvin Davies, either side of a John Toner strike, gave Nomads the victory to follow their 6-1 victory in the opening League Cup group game with Airbus UK.
Manager Nev Powell made eight changes to the line up that drew 0-0 at Havefordwest County at New Bridge Meadow on the weekend, with only goalkeeper Dimitri Brinias, defender Tommy Harrison and midfielder Craig Hutchinson keeping their place in the starting line up as Powell rotates his squad.
The New Saints had much the better of the game, but Nomads defended resolutely and frustrated their visitors, while enjoying sporadic counter-attacks.
Anthony Warriner fired over the top from 20 yards early on, while Toner had a drive wide of Brinias’ goal and Martyn Naylor had a free header cleared off the line by Phil MacDiarmid. Graham Roche cleared a Toner header off the line as both sides went in 0-0 at the break.
In the second half it was more of the same as The New Saints controlled the play with Nomads hitting them on the break, but just after the hour mark O’Toole took advantage of a mix up at the back to slot into an empty net and give Nomads the lead.
Ken McKenna brought on Mike Wilde and Scott Ruscoe in a bid to salvage something from the game, and it looked like it had done the trick as Phil Molyneux, a second half substitute was disposessed in midfield and a neat through ball saw Toner beat the offside trap, round Brinias and level the scores on 82 minutes.
But Nomads were not done there and three minutes later regained their advantage as the hard working Calvin Davies volleyed home to give them all three points.

The failure of both sides to find the net hardly distracted from the top-quality entertainment provided which had the supporters on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
"It was an outstanding game, which provided great entertainment and I'm pleased with the point against the best Connahs Quay side I've seen" said Haverfordwest player-manager Derryn Brace.
Visitors' veteran striker Tommy Mutton always posed a threat to the home defence and had one effort cleared off the line by Simon Heal and another brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Lee Kendall.
Tony Bird had Haverfordwest's best chance, but failed to convert following a fine move involving Lee Hudgell and Tim Hicks. |
Airbus 1, Connah's Quay Nomads 6
From Wrexham Evening Leader
TOMMY MUTTON was back on form for Connah’s Quay Nomads and firing on all cylinders as the Deesiders continued their winning start to the season.
Mutton grabbed a late winner in their opening Premier League fixture at Flint’s Cae Castell to hand Nomads a 2-1 win over Newtown, and the hitman was back on the goal-trail in midweek as the Quay notched six at the Airfields in a League Cup Group B match. Mutton was on target with a hat-trick, while a late brace from skipper Marc Limbert and an earlier effort from winger Adam Dickinson gave Nomads a 6-1 win over what was a very young and inexperienced Airbus UK outfit.
But manager Nev Powell was quick to point out that you can only beat the team in front of you and he was hoping to be able to take that form into tomorrow’s long trip south to face Deryn Brace’s Haverfordwest County at New Bridge Meadow. Powell said: “A lot of people criticise his (Mutton’s) workrate but come the end of the season if we keep this team together he will score 25 goals, which is very important. “But it wasn’t just about Tommy the other night. It was the whole team and we played some very good stuff and scored some very good goals.”
Nomads were forced to make an early change when Chris Taylor had to come off after four minutes with a head injury, and five minutes later they were behind when Shaun Beck latched onto a poor clearance from goalkeeper Dimitri Brinias to give the Planemakers the lead. But from there on in they confined the home side to sporadic attacks and went on to notch what was a comfortable win in the end. Powell added: “We were pretty sloppy for the first 10 minutes but the next 80 we were superb. The likes of Marc (Limbert), Tommy (Mutton) and Craig (Garside) played as if they were playing the likes of TNS, and that’s the reason we won 6-1. “We wanted to carry on Saturday. We’ve done that and I’m very pleased. We’ve got a lot of new lads in that team and I wanted to give them more time to gell. If it would have been in November maybe I would have given a few of the fringe players a game but it’s still very early in the season.”
The cut to Taylor’s head looks likely to keep him out of the side to face County, while Tommy Harrison, Gary Lovell and Graham Roache all picked up niggling knocks, but should be alright. Chris Williams is also back available after serving a suspension.
Connah's Quay Nomads 2, Newtown 1
Match Report from Wales on Sunday Aug 20th.
NOMADS new boys Anthony Warriner and Marc Limbert linked up to get the Deesiders' season off to a flying start at their new shared home at Flint. But Nomads had to come from behind after a disputed penalty in the 19th minute for a foul by Tommy Harrison on Newtown's Darren Ryan enabled Danny Barton to fire Newtown ahead. Nomads levelled three minutes before the break when a glorious cross from Warriner was powerfully headed into the net by former Rhyl ace Marc Limbert.
Nomads stepped up the pace and although Barton tested new keeper Demitri Brinias, it was old faithful Tommy Mutton who fired the winning goal four minutes from the end. Collecting a cross from Adam Dickinson 16 yards from goal, Mutton's blistering shot gave keeper David Jones no chance as Nomads celebrated a welcome win at the first attempt after waiting until November to break their duck last season.No-one played a more effective part than Warriner.

Author: Guv Date: 05-08-06 After Thursdays performance, I am sorry that I was on a downer, coz it was a poor game. After watching a completely different Nomads team today, against Chadderton FC.....WOW.. What a difference 2 days make. An entertaining game with good performance's all round and a win, 2-1. They started the better and went 1-0 up after about 15mins, seconds after we missed a sitter. We drew level after some excellent work by Dickenson, Who set up T.Mutton for a simple tap in, 1-1. We had loads of chances to go further ahead but score at half time 1-1.
The second half saw us dominate, and missing again loads of efforts. T,Mutton scored the winner. All the lads work very hard 2 day and the opposition wasn't bad either. 3 more games befor the start of the season, 1 Monday night, 1 Tuesday night and then Saturday.......am feeling a lot happier today!

It was a very poor second half and 1-1 was the final score. Just as well the opposition wasn't much, just one chance in second half and that was it. Very, very DISAPPOINTING game....... .we looked sooooooo tired.and unfit.
v Gresford

Score 0-0. A tough set of opponents, had one good chance in the first half but was missed from 4 yards. only one change at H.T. and with some of the players being tried tiring, Gres had a spell on top and hit the bat with the keeper beaten. Made six changes after about 20 mins. and nomads improved but, the Gresford tackling got a lot worse as some of the more skillful players got about them. Warriner twice, Cook twice and Morgan were all scythed down in dangerous positions as Nomads created more and missed chances. Garside put a header onto the bar and Cook squeezed a side foot past the post as Nomads territorially dominated the last twenty mins, but still no goals.
v Holywell

A 2-1 win. Rough-house game in the first half, grass was too long for any good football to be played . Nomads the better side in the first half, missed chances, Holywell were contained easily. The second half saw a few changes from both sides and the game fell apart. Nomads went 2-0 up and conceded a late pen.
v Halkyn
Author: lymm Date: 21-07-06
Score was 4-1 to Nomads, 2-1 at half time. Nomads were a little shaky for the first 15 mins and went 1-0 down through slack defending. once they were in stride though they opened up Halkyn almost at will but, unfortunately they didn't convert the chances. A quickly taken throw from the left & cross into the box & they were level. A corner from the right late on and a near post header saw them deservedly in the lead but, not by the score it should have been. Wholesale changes at half time and, nomads soon went 3-1 ahead against a now ragged looking opposition. A fourth from a corner mid-way through the half saw any resistance finally stamped out as, a few more trialist were tried out.
Carmarthen 1, Connah's Quay Nomads 1
Report from welsh-premier.com
BOTH sides could be happy with a point, as Carmarthen put themselves in line for a European return, while Nomads celebrated Welsh Premier safety. Connah's Quay were soon in front when a slip by Kevin Aherne-Evans let in Phil Molyneaux who rounded keeper Andrew Delve to score. Paul Smith did well to keep out a Wayne Jones free-kick as Carmarthen tried to hit back and several more chances went begging for the hosts. Tommy Mutton almost put Nomads further in front as Quay looked comfortable until Alan Morgan got his marching orders for an elbow. It turned the tide as the Old Gold pressed and sub Mattie Davies sent his chip over Smith after being put in by fellow sub Steffan Hughes. Fourth-placed Carmarthen will now take an InterToto Cup trip if Rhyl win the Welsh Cup next Sunday.
Connah's Quay Nomads 1, Llanelli 0

THE Deesiders produced their best performance of the season to beat the second-placed full-timers.
The impressive Phil Molyneux's 36th-minute strike was enough to settle an entertaining contest and the surprise was that it was the only goal of an action-packed first half. For Nomads, Tommy Mutton blazed wide and Chris Williams smacked a post before Molyneux - who had twice previously tested goalkeeper Duncan Roberts - curled in following a surging run.
The pace was no less frenetic after the break. Molyneux had a decent penalty appeal turned down, while at the other end, Llanelli hit the woodwork for the second time on the night, before Nomads keeper Paul Smith brilliantly denied Jacob Mingorance. But the Quay held on for a win that takes them up to 12th |

Newtown 1, Connah's Quay Nomads 1
Report from welsh-premier.com
NEWTOWN and Connah's Quay remain close to the danger zone after sharing the spoils in an evenly-contested battle at Latham Park. Veteran Stuart Rain started in attack for the visitors as Tommy Mutton was delayed by work commitments and soon laid off Phil Molyneux to fire over the bar. Connal Murtagh also fired over another Rain-Molyneux link-up, before Gary O’Toole's goal bound effort was cleared off the line by the Robins' Mark Allen. Damien Daniels went close for the hosts with a 20-yarder with O’Toole seeing his 'goal' ruled out for offside. Craig Williams and Alan Hooley both had efforts scrambled away as Newtown came on strongly in the second-half, but it was Nomads who took the lead just after the hour when Alan Morgan's corner was volleyed in from the edge of the box by former Robin Danny Jellicoe. But Newtown hit back in the 75th minute as Danny Barton set up Danny Desormeux to level.
NEWI Cefne Druids 2, Connah's Quay Nomads 2

BOTH Druids and Nomads edged a point closer to safety after sharing the spoils and would be heartened by news of Cwmbran's defeat at Park Avenue. The Ancients were quick off the mark, although there was more than a hint of good fortune about their seventh minute goal. An Osian Jones cross from the left appeared to be heading out of play before taking a late dip and finding its way over keeper Paul Smith into the back of the net. Nine minutes later the Nomads were back on terms when referee Evans adjudged Mark Hobson's tackle on Connall Murtagh to be unfair and Chris Williams fired home from the spot. Quay went ahead on the stroke of half-time when Phil Molyneaux got on the end of a long clearance and slotted past the advancing Peter Pahulyi. Nomads survived a penalty appeal five minutes after the break when Matthew Cook came down in the box, but the home faithful did not have long to wait for the equaliser. Darren Williams beat the offside trap and lifted the ball over Sm
Connahs Quay Nomads 1, Aberystwyth 0
Evening Leader
A SECOND half goal from Connah’s Quay Nomads’ Gary O’Toole was the difference as the Deeside club ran out 1-0 winners at home over Aberystwyth Town.
Nomads were quickly out of the blocks at home to Town with Stuart Rain firing over the top from 20 yards after a quickly taken corner by Alan Morgan and Connal Murtagh. Glyndwr Hughes was a consistent threat to Nomads throughout the whole of the match and on 20 minutes fired into the side netting when he should have done better, before Ryan Crawford at the other end should have made it 1-0 when his effort was parried by Richard Morgan, but if Crawford should have scored then Phil Molyneux ought definitely to have found the back of the net as the ball fell nicely to him off Morgan, but he could only fire over the top. Aberystwyth were reduced to 10 men on 40 minutes when Tom Billing was sent off for a second bookable offence as the game threatened to get out of hand in difficult conditions.
After the break Nomads continued to press looking for that all important strike that would move them away from the danger area and it came on 53 minutes when Tommy Mutton put O’Toole through on Morgan’s goal and he fired low in to the far corner to open the scoring. But Aberystwyth fought back to their credit and Sion Meredith made Paul Smith work in the home goal with a good effort, before Alan Morgan had a shot/cross which eventually found its way to Chris Williams, but he could only fire over the top. Hughes set Huw Jones through on a one on one with Smith, but the Nomads’ stopper did well to smother the ball and Jamie Morris hit a 20 yard drive just wide of the mark. Molyneux and Hughes both saw lobbed attempts drop the wrong side of the goal as both sides attempted to find the target. And then as time was running out Rain was called into action to clear an effort from Hughes off the line, but the ball fell back to Hughes and his shot came back off the post with Smith stranded and Morris followed up but could only fire wide as Nomads held on for the win.
Connahs Quay Nomads 0, Port Talbot 1
Report from welsh-premier.com
CONNAH'S Quay Nomads were pulled back into the relegation dogfight after losing to Port Talbot, while Cwmbran recorded a vital victory at Caersws. But sub Luke Bowen's late winner was harsh on the Deesiders, who paid the penalty for a host of missed chances. Visiting keeper Neil Thomas had to produced a smart save in the opening minutes to deny both Gary O'Toole and Ryan Crawford. Forward Phil Molyneux then saw his effort cleared off the line, while he later blazed a good chance over the bar from six yards. Gradually the Steelmen began to get a toe-hold and Andrew Pearson twice tested Nomads' keeper Paul Smith. Eventually they got their reward when Bowen received a long throw-in and headed past Smith with his first touch of the game.
Airbus 2, Connah's Quay Nomads 2
Report from welsh-premier.com
CONNAH'S Quay scrapped to a vital point in the relegation struggle despite finishing the game with 10 men. The Wingmakers took an early lead when Chris Williams climbed all over Chris Moores and player/boss Gareth Owen converted from the spot. But Williams, returning from suspension, atoned for his error by outjumping Airbus keeper Adam McGhee to head the equaliser in the 36th minute. David Hughes saw his shot hit the bar before Airbus took the lead when Stewart White had a simple far post tap-in from a Leigh Williams cross. Sub Stuart Rain put Nomads level again on 71 minutes, bursting through the defence to fire past McGhee, and the visitors held on despite losing Ben Heath to a red card
Connahs Quay Nomads 1, Caersws 3
Report from welsh-premier.com
CONNAH'S Quay remained rooted close to the danger zone after Caersws went away with all three points on a cold and miserable night at the Deeside Stadium. A Neil Mitchell double put the Bluebirds in control and the win was sealed five minutes from time when Nomads' skipper Danny Jellicoe was sent off for a foil on Ross Stephens, who converted the resulting penalty. It could have been different if a shot from a Stuart Cook corner had not been cleared off the line as early as the fourth minute, but Caersws went ahead in the 19th minute when Chris Venables threaded a through ball into the path of Mitchell who finished clinically behind keeper Paul Smith from 15 yards. The impressive Gavin O'Toole saw his 25-yard shot saved low by Caersws keeper Andy Mulliner who also denied Tommy Mutton but Irishman O'Toole rifled a superb shot from 25 yards into the top right corner to put the home side level. Mark Williams should have put the Bluebirds into the lead after the break with Ben Heath's 30-yard shot for the Nomads testing Mulliner. But, with 15 minutes to go, a free kick from Colin Reynolds was flicked on by
