Jim Hackett was feeling quite upbeat when he spoke to the website today. He said that the players will train again on Saturday and he expects to start signing some players up straight afterwards. He will let the website know as soon as players put pen to paper.
Jim said he was very pleased with the excellent turn-out and the quality of players that came and he was also pleasantly surprised how sharp some of them looked, given the lay-off they've had. He said he saw some good exchanges developing between certain players who linked up and read each others game well. He thinks we already have the basis of a good quality squad of WPL players. 4 goalie's came and Jim is confident that we will be well covered, in what is always a potential problem area. With 3 or 4 more players still yet to train, Jim's initial impression is that there may only be a couple of areas that will need strengthening before the season starts and that there is still plenty of time to do that.
Jim is glad that we have got the Chester training friendly coming up soon. He said it gives training an early focus and will provide a good workout. The game has been switched from Chester because of unavailability of their training pitch, but with the Stadium also probably unavailable, it's most likely to take place at Dock Road. Jim said that after all the 'off the field problems' they've had, Chester are just glad to get on with the football and they are just as keen to meet as we are. The match is currently scheduled for the 11th, but Jim said it might get put back a few days to a mid-week evening. (I will update the website and let you know as soon as I hear anything. There's nothing to say that you can't turn up to watch training, is there ?)
Jim finished of our chat by laughing and saying, "Speed and Agility Coach John Roberts had a glint in his eye and said that now he's seen their potential, we will have the fittest team in the Welsh Premier by the time the season starts. He can't wait to get stuck into work with them, so t's going to be hard work, but good fun."
