Nomads new signing
ex-Runcorn Linnets Liam Loughlin.
Some of the passing and movement from the boys in white must have pleased new first team coach Roger Preece who was on duty for the first time. The relative importance of football was brought into sharp perspective when both sides lined up for a minutes silence in memory of Connah's Quay lad David Gellart, who tragically died whilst playing for Wepre against Holyhead on Tuesday Night.
From the off, this was a physical battle with Bala being held by a resolute Nomads who were better on the ball and looked great going forward. Both teams moved the ball well on the excellent Rhewl surface and the game was a joy to watch. Both sides had made and missed chances before Gary Penlingtons great pass sent Osian Jones in to score for Bala. Nomads response was swift, as a short corner move involving Craig Jones led to Tom Baker putting a great cross in for Phil Clarke (pictured right) to head home.
Mid way through the second half a decent Nomads attack saw Loughlin put in a cross that seemed to be handled out by a defender. Ben Alston seemed certain to net but was hauled back. This time the ref awarded the spot kick. A Trialist stepped up and put us in front. Almost instantly Bala replied with a flowing move involving Jones and Duckett that saw Chris Roscoe hit a firm shot home. Both sides made and missed chances. Duckett couldn't believe he had missed a free header and Griffiths hit the post for Bala. At the other end we should have been given a blatant penalty and also saw shots go wide. With time running out Bala pushed a long ball over our defence and Warren Duckett was on hand to net.
Nomads line-up:- Parks, Bamber, Trialist, Pinch G, Clarke, Jones, Loughlin, Baker, Trialist, Alston, Pinch D, Hooley, Herbert, Trialist.
