GAP CONNAH'S QUAY FC PLAYING SQUAD -2008/9

BEN ALSTON - Right Back - 4/11/86

Born in St Helens, Ben played for St Helens Town, Pilkingtons and Congleton Town, before signing for Connah’s Quay Nomads in July 2007 Ben, who’s Nomads debut was delayed by injury, is a strong tackling full back who can also provide cover in central defence and midfield. He has put in some good performances in central defence to cover for injuries. Ben to turned to football, when injury prevented him from following  his first love, rugby league

ALAN HOOLEY – Defender - 13/10/1978

Alan was signed by Newtown from West Cheshire Leaguers Christleton FC as a central midfielder. After two seasons at Latham Park, the Chester-born midfielder rejoined Airbus, for whom he played in the Cymru Alliance before their elevation to the Welsh Premier. Alan made the short move across to Connah’s Quay in January 2008 and has been an ever present in the team since his arrival.

GARY PINCH  - Centre Back - 3/01/86

Born in Birkenhead, Gary is in his fourth season with Nomads and won the Brian Morris Clubman of The Year award last season. He has made 54 Welsh Premier appearances for us to date. His previous clubs were Tranmere Rovers, Accrington Stanley and Witton Albion. Gary is a rugged tackling central defender who is good in the air and leads by example, both on and off the pitch.

CHRIS WILLIAMS – Centre back - 09/11/84

Bungle moved from home town club Flint Town United in 2004 and has been the heart of the Nomads defence ever since. With 116 Nomads appearances, Bungle is our most experienced WPL player. Inspirational and very talented, last season he attracted trial offers from Millwall and Tranmere Rovers prior to sustaining injuries which kept him out for 3 months. Bungle is also a fitness trainer and  talented singer/guitarist. Some blokes have it all  – Shame about his looks!

CRAIG JONES – Mid-field - 07/11/84

‘Tigger’ is Liverpudlian who previously played for Penlake, Knowsley and Congleton Town before signing for Nomads in August 2007. Tigger won last seasons Nomads Managers Player of the Season award and he was an ever-present in the Nomads line-up. He is a midfield dynamo who passes and tackles well and never stops running. He also likes to chip in with the occasional goal and is a very popular figure at the club with a playful character and generous personality.

TOM BAKER - Mid-field - 07/07/78

Tommy joined Nomads in July 2007. His previous clubs were  Wrexham, Southport, Prescot Cables (N W C League medal), Warrington Town (promotion to Unibond League) and Congleton Town. Last seasons ‘Nomads players player’ award winner, Tommy is a cultured midfield holding player with an eye for goal and a powerful shot and he is also a competent full back in emergencies. Tom works for the Civil Service

CHRIS HERBERT – Utility Player – 28/02 78

‘Herbie’ was born in Chester and  played for  Chester City. He moved on to  become a prolific scorer at West Cheshire League club Christleton before joining Nomads in Aug 2007. He is a tenacious forward with a high work rate who also demonstrates his versatility with capable appearances in the  Nomads defence. Herbie is a popular and valuable member of  Nomads Squad and his humour and enthusiasm is infectious.

SAM McNUTT – Mid-field – 16/11/79

Sam signed for Nomads in January 2008 and after 14 appearances and 4 goals last season, his close control and pace quickly established him as a firm favourite with the Nomads supporters. Sam is an exciting player to watch and is at his best when attacking defences at pace down the flanks. He has had previous experience at Prescot Cables, Congleton Town, Vauxhall Motors and Southport.

DANNY FORDE – Mid-field - 08/01/1986

Born in Salford, Danny joined Barrow after being released by Oldham Athletic and he also played for Mossley and Ashton United before joining Nomads in January 2008. He is a tenacious player, who added much needed skill, bite and guile to our mid-field last season. Danny’s presence was a significant factor in the up-turn in Nomads fortunes. His decision to remain with Nomads for this season is indeed, good news.
