The Wrexham-headquartered recruitment agency recently ended its interest in Gap Queens Park FC, handing the club back to the community through a merger with Borras Park Albion.
Under the new name of Gap Connah’s Quay FC (subject to FAW ratification) the team will be known locally as the Nomads. The new management team at the Deeside Stadium will be headed by Steve O`Shaughnessy, who recently stepped down as manager of Caernarfon Town to take up the post. Details of his management team will be made public in due course.
O'Shaughnessy is an ex-Leeds United apprentice who then played for Bradford City, Exeter, Darlington, Stalybridge Celtic and Hong Kong outfit Buler Rangers He holds the Uefa A licence and has managed Oswestry Town and Cefn Druids as well as working with young players at Wrexham's Centre of Excellence.
New club Chief Executive Stewart Roberts, formerly General Manager of Gap QP, will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the club in all areas, including football, finance and administration.
Gap Personnel has ambitious plans for the Nomads, said Stewart: “The last season was turbulent for Connah’s Quay and we are determined to stabilise the club as quickly as possible.
“As well as securing Welsh Premiership status during the coming season we’ll be striving to achieve domestic and UEFA licensing criteria. We want a team that is capable of achieving Super 10 status when the FAW re-organises the Pyramid.
“From a financial perspective, we need to increase the turnover of the club year on year, so we will also be focusing on improving match attendance and creating strong and lasting links with local businesses.
“Another priority is driving forward both the Nomads Academy and Nomads football in the community to help secure the club’s future long term.
“We want to continue the long history of the club and the morals of previous officials and supporters and I’m confident that the Nomads will prosper under its new ownership.”
Personnel changes at Connah’s Quay will include the appointment of Levi Lloyd, last season’s manager of Gap Queens Park, who will oversee football related matters, and also liaise with all managers and coaches from academy through to 1st team.
John Gray will become President of the Club with Richard and Ann Jones holding Vice President positions. Club Patron will be Lord Barry Jones MP, and a new Chairman and Vice Chairman will be appointed.
Bobby Hunter and Lynda Morris will remain as working directors of the club. Bobby will handle domestic/ UEFA licensing and will take control of match day secretary duties. Trevor Green will becomes General Secretary. The full make up of the new board will be announced over the coming weeks.
