By wivey - June 20 2008
TOMMY BAKER, NOMADS PLAYERS PLAYER OF THE SEASON AWARD WINNER LAST SEASON, HAS DECLINED AN INVITATION TO APPLY FOR THE CONNAH'S QUAY NOMADS MANAGERS VACANCY:- In a statement to the website, Tommy said he doesn't think he has enough experience to manage the team but emphasised his commitment to continuing to play for Nomads in the future. >

In a phone call to the website today, Tommy said that last Thursday, he received a phone call from Nomads Club Chairman Bobby Hunter to encourage him to apply for the vacant Managers post. He said that after careful consideration and some consultation with close friends, he does not think he has the necessary experience required to Manage a Club at this level.

He went on to say, "last season, playing for Connah's Quay Nomads under the management of Jim Hackett and Andy Lee, was a really rewarding and enjoyable experience, despite the pressure we were all under. The squad was united by great team spirit and determined to succeed. Having won the players player of the year award both last season and the season before at my previous club, I feel I have still got a lot the offer as a player over the next few seasons. My experience of playing for Connah's Quay last season was so good, that I am fully committed to playing for Nomads next season under which-ever Manager that the Club appoints. I know there are other players who feel the same way as I do and if most of the squad remains together, with the addition of a few new good players we can become a really successful team in the Welsh Premier league."

THIRD REJECTION FOR NOMADS

Tom Baker
Baker wants to continue as a Nomads' player.
TOM Baker - Nomads' player of the season - is the latest to turn down an invitation to manage the crisis club.
The midfielder, who joined Connah's Quay last July from Congleton Town, says he was encouraged to apply for the vacant position by chairman Bobby Hunter, who dispensed with the services of Jim Hackett earlier this month.
Since then, Hackett's assistant Andy Lee and academy coach Ken Price have both declined the post.
Baker says that, after careful consideration and some consultation with close friends, he does not think he has the necessary experience required to manage a club at Welsh Premier level.
"Last season, playing for Connah's Quay Nomads under the management of Jim Hackett and Andy Lee was a really rewarding and enjoyable experience, despite the pressure we were all under," he told the club's official website.
"The squad was united by great team spirit and determined to succeed. Having won the players' player of the year award both last season and the season before at my previous club, I feel I have still got a lot to offer as a player over the next few seasons.
"My experience of playing for Connah's Quay last season was so good that I am fully committed to playing for Nomads next season under whichever manager the club appoints.
"I know there are other players who feel the same way as I do and if most of the squad remains together, with the addition of a few new good players we can become a really successful team in the Welsh Premier," he added.
Baker, 29, has also played for Prescot Cables, where he won a North West Counties League medal, Southport and Wrexham and was a member of the Warrington Town squad that won promotion to the Unibond League.
