I would like to say thanks to all those involved at Nomads during my time here at the club and to clarify my current position and put some rumours to rest!
When I arrived at the club last July after Jim’s invitation to join him on Deeside it was clear we needed to draft in a squad capable of competing at WPL level, and fortunately I was in a position to bring in some players with a wealth of non league experience to help us get off to an encouraging start. All the coaching staff worked tremendously hard up to the transfer window and post January saw us build on this work with some solid performances and the addition of some real quality with the likes of Danny Forde, Sam McNutt, Alan Hooley and Ged Courtney amongst others.
The players and coaching staff have been a close knit unit during the year and it saddens me to think we will not have the opportunity to work together further. In addition to the work of Jim and myself, the knowledge and professionalism of John, Grenville and Ken was a pleasure to witness and be a part of. I would like to thank all those people that make the club a great place to have worked, to Wivey for his continued efforts to communicate the Nomads message to all the fans, and thank you to Tin Tin and Quay-purr’s son ‘Rocky’ for my post match ‘beatings’ which regularly cost me a pound!
Most of all though thank you to the players – many who I have known for years now, and your constant positive responses to training sessions and requests to ‘get a shape around the ball!’
In light of recent developments my position is this. Chairman Bobby Hunter offered me the post of manager in the last week. After speaking with Bobby I spoke with one or two players and people in football I have known and trust for a good while. It is no secret the club at the moment have to cut their cloth accordingly and in line with potential income and I fully understand the position of the club. I have decided at this time I am not able to accept the manager’s position, I am not sure at this minute what quality of squad I would be able to put together and next May seems a long time away! I felt that rather than get to a stage where I may resent the situation in a few months it would be better for me to say ‘no’ now and allow the club to move on in its search for a new manager.
The Chairman has been realistic in terms of expectations and finance with me throughout our discussions and fully accepts my decision and reasons. I have tried to assist him in the next line of enquiry and would like to thank him for the opportunity. I wish the club every success in the future and it is with regret that I depart from the club and hope as a group of people we get the opportunity to work together again further down the line.
Best wishes to all.
Andy

LEE TURNS DOWN NOMADS' CHANCE
 |
| Jim Hackett and Andy Lee were at the helm last season. | ANDY Lee has turned down the chance to step-up from assistant manager and take charge of cash-strapped Connah's Quay Nomads next season. Formerly manager of Congleton Town, Lee arrived on Deeside last summer as right-hand man to new boss Jim Hackett, who was told his services would no longer be required last week. Lee, who brought in several players from his old club, told the Nomads' official website he had declined the post in view of the reduced playing budget which would be available next season and the quality of squad he would be able to afford. He said that Hunter had "been realistic in terms of expectations and finance". "Chairman Bobby Hunter offered me the post of manager and I spoke with one or two players and people in football I have known and trust for a good while," said Lee. "It is no secret the club have to cut their cloth at the moment in line with potential income and I fully understand the position. "I have decided I am not able to accept the manager’s position, I am not sure at this minute what quality of squad I would be able to put together and next May seems a long time away. "I felt that rather than get to a stage where I may resent the situation in a few months it would be better for me to say 'no' now and allow the club to move on in its search for a new manager." Earlier this week, Cymru Alliance outfit GAP Queens Park decided not to pursue an invitation to take over the Nomads. 22 May 2008
