CONNAH'S QUAY NOMADS v CARMARTHEN TOWN Sat 2.30pm
By wivey - April 18 2008
IN NOMADS FINAL GAME THIS SEASON, WE AIM TO AVENGE THE HUMILIATING 8-0 LEAGUE DEFEAT SUFFERED AT THE FEET OF CARMARTHEN IN DECEMBER:- >

Looking destined for fourth spot for most of the season, Carmarthens standards have slipped in their last 6 matches with 3 defeats, a draw and two victories. They will be determined to beat Nomads and hope that other results go their way, in order to finish in fourth place. Carmarthen have good away form, with 8 wins and 3 draws on their travels, and with that thumping 8-0 home victory against Nomads recorded earlier this season, they will be competing hard to complete the double.

From Carmarthen Website:-

BRACE CALLS FOR A POSITIVE FINALE

Town manager Deryn Brace, who played a full ninety minutes in Town's stalemate with Porthmadog, is looking for his players to produce a final flourish and round off the season on a positive note next Saturday.

“It’s not a case of going to Connah's Quay with nothing really to play for except three extra points and seeing the season out. Those three points are vital to us and will determine, depending on other results also, whether we finish 4th. 5th. 6th. or even 7th. Position is important. It gives people confidence and a boost. I want us to go to Connah's Quay and produce a more positive performance. I’m looking for players to see the season through in a positive way”.

Nomads couldn't have had more demanding end to the season, finishing with 3 games against teams from the top tier of the league. Whilst the valiant efforts against League Champions Llanelli and last seasons Champions New Saints, illustrates the considerable improvement that Nomads have made as the season has progressed, we will definatly want to avenge that humiliating away defeat by beating Carmarthen and ending the season with a victory. This would also put everyone connected with the Club in good heart, for the Nomads Awards Celebration on Saturday evening.

Nomads have undoubtedly played some quality football in the last two games and certainly would have beaten most lesser teams, so major changes in the squad are unlikely. Playing with the same determination and taking scoring chances with a little more accuracy (and luck!), Nomads should have the satisfaction of finishing off the season in style with a win. This is your last chance to support Nomads for a while and most of us have no idea what the future holds, so get along to Deeside with your friends and families and give The Nomads all the support you can muster.

Then watch this space - as the mystery of Connah's Quay Nomads future unfolds !!!

Jims Hacketts section in the Nomads Programme for Saturday:-

Firstly I'd like to welcome Deryn Brace, Mark Aizlewood, the staff players and supporters of Carmarthen Town to Deeside Stadium for today's match.

Since my last notes we've played two matches here at Deeside against the top two teams in the WPL, and despite the results going against us, the performances have been very positive, and with a little more luck/quality, we could have got something out of each of the games.

As these notes are being compiled there is still a fight going on between Caersws, Porthmadog and Llangefni to see who will finish in the bottom two places, and with no team getting too far behind the others during the season, it's meant that we've not had any opportunity to relax until the last week, and I'm sure that anyone who has attended the last two matches will have seen the difference in the players performances, and how, when they have relaxed more, they have played good flowing football

With this being our final match of the season I feel that we can look back on this season as one long learning curve for all the staff and players involved, very few of whom had been involved in the WPL before this season. The players recruited since day one have certainly had to learn 'on the hoof' that the WPL is a tough physical league and despite our poor form pre-Christmas, we have learnt enough during the season to get through it safely, having won or drawn the important games against teams that we needed to get something from.

As this is the last time I'll be writing in the programme I'd like to thank the people behind the scenes, without whom, the matches wouldn't happen, so firstly the match-day stewards, Harry, Stewart, Steve and Ronnie should be thanked for the relentless work they carry out on a match-day. John Gray and Roma who provide plenty of support both on match-day with their hospitality and the rest of the week with the production of the programme, assisting Dave Rapson, the programme editor in compiling the programme with the added help of Stewart in the DACS office. Another person working tirelessly behind the scenes is our website editor 'Wivey', whose constant support of Nomads on the site is greatly appreciated by the staff and players, to all of the aforementioned, many thanks for your support and efforts during what has been a long and difficult season.

On the coaching side of things we've been extremely fortunate this season to have John Roberts working with the players on their fitness and conditioning, and anyone seeing our players this season will confirm that fitness has not been a problem. Ken Price has worked tirelessly behind the scenes as our physio/coach. Ken's help has been invaluable to the players and myself. Finally, without Andy Lee, this season would have been a lot harder than it ultimately was, his recruitment of players throughout the season has been a bonus, whilst his coaching abilities have been utilised fully in getting the players to perform to the best of their ability.

For our visitors today I'd like to wish them a safe journey home and to everyone involved with Nomads, I'd like to thank you for the support, help and assistance given to me and the team during the season, and wish everyone good luck for the future.

Cheers

Hacko

From the Evening Leader:-

Nomads in good heart as Carmarthen come calling

Connah's Quay Nomads face another stern test of their Welsh Premier league credentials when they play host to sixth placed Carmarthen Town tomorrow.

Despite the fact that Nomads have already lost to champions Llanelli and second placed The New Saints this week manager Jim Hackett is understandably positive about the form his side have shown over the two encounters.

"We have played good football of late," he said. "Against TNS we were good value for 0-0 at the break but were sloppy at the start of the second period and found ourselves behind after 20 seconds. We got back into the match at 2-1 and we looked almost certain to get an equaliser. Unfortunately a defensive mistake allowed them to go three up and that was that".

"Carmarthen will be a different kettle of fish and the players are all looking forward to the match after we were thumped down there. We were losing 6-0 after 20 minutes".

Hackett said that a pleasing aspect of Tuesday's defeat to The New Saints was the work rate and commitment: "The lads effort didn't drop and Danny Forde was brilliant in the middle. His stamina was a credit to both him and fitness coach John Roberts. Nobody out-runs us, even at this late stage of the season."

As the season draws to a close the majority of clubs in the division will have plans for the future while Welsh Premier chiefs have announced proposals to make two divisions of ten teams as of the 2010/11 season.

But Hackett can afford no such luxuries with his future at the club still undecided.

"Nothing has been discussed or sorted out about next season, said the Nomads boss. "I would have prefered everything to have been sorted with teams looking at our players but at the moment this season will be the last for me."
