Yarm's line-up has been considerably re- vamped since the beginning of the season and it certainly showed. Making full use of their mobile pack and speedy backs, they opened the scoring with a fifth minute converted try and added two more and a penalty at regular intervals. A comprehensive tackle from Keith Grazier saved a further score and although Seaton were doing their very best to compete, it looked as though they were about to be swept away.
To add insult to injury, with five minutes of the half remaining, an attempted clearance kick was charged down gifting a fourth try to the visitors. The seasiders, however, gained possession from the re-start and scrum half Dan Charlton scampered over for a crucial score. Lewis Humble slotted the conversion to reduce the half time deficit to 29-7.
In the second half, Seaton came out all guns blazing and, following an excellent driving maul, Peter Storey touched down in the corner and Humble added a superb conversion. Seaton's scrum held up well throughout the game but, thanks in part to the attentions of Yarm's back row and scrum half, distribution was often disrupted. Following one such scrum on the half way line, Alan Ainsley emerged from the confusion to punch a deep hole in the defence and the ball went through several hands before Peter Storey's well timed pass put Keith Grazier over the line. Seaton dominated play from the re-start and several good drives saw them once again threatening. They were unable to maul the ball over but moved it wide through several hands and Humble crashed over for try number four. He then added his fourth conversion to move within one point of the lead with about fifteen minutes to play.
With Yarm piling on the pressure in the home twenty-two, Grazier launched a towering “up and under”. Liam Pape claimed the ball and fed John Taylor, who out paced the defence for a try that put Seaton ahead for the first time. Both sides had further chances as the clock ran down, Yarm even getting to within one metre of the line, but it was a late penalty from the boot of Humble that put the issue beyond doubt.
