Jason Norman scored the opening try within three minutes, capitalising on a deep incursion into opposition territory by Jeff Storey and deft cross field handling by both backs and forwards. The visitors spent the next ten minutes pressuring Seaton's line but the defence stood firm. Alan Ainsley broke the College stranglehold and enabled Murry Stockdale to touch down between the posts, despite the attentions of several defenders. From then on, the Tynesiders failed to create a realistic chance of scoring and, within ten minutes, Seaton's flowing fifteen man rugby was rewarded with two well taken tries by centre John Taylor. Seaton had by now procured near total domination of the line-out and, benefiting from the resultant increase in possession, Taylor broke through to feed Chris Ainsley, who powered over for try number five. Shortly before half time, Stockdale picked up from a scrum against the head and Chris Ainsley was on hand to apply the finishing touch. Taylor kicked four first half conversions to produce a 38-0 lead at the interval. Within five minutes of the re-start, Stockdale crashed over to increase the lead and ten minutes later completed his hat trick with a push over try. Norman added a three point drop goal and, as the Tynesiders' scrum began to disintegrate, he picked up another try from short range. In what was now a very one sided affair, Jeff Storey broke away and Norman jinked through the defence to touch down under the posts. With the light fading and the clock running down, Chris Ainsley completed the third hat trick of the day with a classic winger's try. Taylor added to the visitors' woes with three further conversions. To be fair to the collegians, although they were outclassed on the day, they gave one hundred percent effort throughout, epitomised especially by their number eight, who had a fine game.
