Nevertheless the game went ahead with uncontested scrums and Seaton ran out eventual 58-15 winners. Jason Norman scored the home side's first try within three minutes and Craig Moffatt, who added the conversion, slotted an early penalty. The first half was a disjointed sloppy affair but Brigade were rewarded for a period of sustained pressure with a James Evens penalty. Murry Stockdale tidied up from a scrappy line-out to touch down late in the half to compile a 15-3 lead at the interval. Simon Ashton claimed the ball from the kick-off and immediately put Brigade onto the back foot and, following a excellent line out take from Steve Wilson, Norman raced over for his second try. Having once again claimed good possession from the restart, Norman kicked over Brigade's defence and Stockdale, following up at speed, released James Lindsay to add a further try. When a later Brigade attack broke down, Stockdale drove deep into opposition territory and John Taylor touched down under the posts. Brigade hit back with a defence splitting run that saw Mark Garbutt touch down for an unconverted try and, in fact, they were unlucky not to have crossed the line more than once in this period. However, Norman and Alan Ainsley added tries number six and seven for Seaton and Lindsay ran a great line for number eight. With ten minutes of the game remaining, Andrew Shadforth initiated a flowing move from his own 22 that was completed by a try from Ashton. Conversions were added by Moffatt, Taylor and Jeff Storey in this half and Andy Kirton grabbed a converted try for Brigade just before no side.
