From the restart, Lee Kidson stormed back into into the visitors 22, the ball was recycled and Craig Moffatt, coming in from full back, ran a great line to touch down for try number two. The third try followed almost immediately when Dan Charlton capitalised on sweeping play involving both backs and forwards. Showing that they were still in this contest, the visitors then spent a five minute period in Seaton's half but without any great conviction and when Seaton cleared their lines they were rewarded with a fine try from winger Andrew Shadforth. Moffatt added two conversions to establish a 24-0 lead at the interval. In the second half Seaton returned to the offensive and were rewarded with three tries in the first twenty minutes. A skilful inside break from James Lindsay enabled Jason Norman to power over the line; John Taylor completed a text book three-quarter move to score on his debut; and when Murry Stockdale broke from his own 22, supported by Anthony Raynor, Lee Kidson split the defence and ran in under the posts from forty metres. With Seaton once again threatening their line, the visitors pounced on a loose ball and ran the length of the field to score a neat opportunist try but Seaton bounced straight back and, from a tap penalty, slick handling by the backs produced a try for Jeff Storey. As a result of unremitting pressure on the opposition line, Anthony Raynor powered over for Seaton's final touch down. Moffatt added four more conversions but Chester-le-Street were rewarded for their valiant efforts throughout with a last minute try.
