Both sides displayed a touch of early season rustiness with the ball being spilled at vital moments but Seaton were the first to settle. On the fifteen minute mark, Liam Wood was held up inches from the line but Seaton's forwards snaffled the ball from the resulting five metre scrum and Wood touched down to open the scoring. Seaton continued to batter the opposition line and five minutes later Vince Lithgo added a second try. Guisborough returned to the fray and, aided by several penalty awards, were able to produce a try of their own making the half time score 5-10. Seaton's inability to retain possession in the tackle area contributed to a scrappy opening to the second half, but their forwards were gaining the ascendancy in the set pieces and Craig Moffat's deft chip over the defence enabled Keith Grazier to touch down under the posts. Jeff Storey added the conversion. From the restart, Jason Norman produced a defence splitting break and James Lindsey applied the final touch with Seaton 's fourth try. Despite the 5-22 scoreline, Guisborough felt that they were still very much in the game and only some stout defending denied them a score. Seaton cleared their lines and, from a lineout deep in opposition territory, whisked the ball along the threequarter line to enable Moffat to add a further try. Whilst Seaton were reduced to fourteen men, Guisborough hit back with two second half tries but this was balanced by another Wood try, which was converted by Storey
