Seaton Carew v Chester- le-Street 26/01/08
By J.Harrison - April 30 2008
In Durham Northumberland Division Three, SEATON CAREW finished their campaign with a 41-24 win at Chester-le-Street. >
Following the pattern set in recent weeks, Seaton produced an error strewn first half but, thanks to tries from James Lindsay and Lewis Humble, were able to reach the interval with the score standing at 10-10. Within five minutes of the restart Seaton pulled ahead. Possession was secured from a midfield scrum and the ball was moved along the three-quarter line to enable Liam Wood to touch down. They were now playing some fine rugby and despite Chester-le-Street's steadfast defence the pressure eventually told and an Anthony Rayner try increased the lead. The home side eased the pressure with some long searching kicks from their stand off and ,aided and abetted by sloppy defending, were able to hit back with a converted try. Seaton's next score came courtesy of the forwards with Simon Ashton making the initial break, David Burgon taking it on and providing a sublime offload for Rayner's second try. Copybook handling from the backs secured Lindsay's second try and the issue was put beyond doubt by Jeff Storey, who crossed the line after a fine individual break. Humble slotted three second half conversions and in the closing minutes, Chester-le-Street, who had provided stiff opposition throughout, were rewarded with a converted try.
