The stormy conditions were not conducive to flowing rugby but Brigade made full use of the first half wind advantage to open the scoring with a well taken penalty. Seaton replied with a try from David Kightly, who showed great strength and determination to touch down in the corner. Brigade added another penalty but, on the 25 minute mark, Alan Ainsley forced them to concede a scrum in front of the posts and the ball was shipped to winger Andrew Shadforth, who scored in the opposite corner. Although Seaton were applying most of the pressure at this stage, Brigade were still very much in the game and it was only just before half time that Seaton increased their lead to 6-15 thanks to a well executed move that culminated in Kightly's second try. The first fifteen minutes of the second half were played in home territory but Brigade defended well and were able to effectively clear their lines on several occasions. The pressure eventually told, however, and Lewis Humble capitalised on some slick handling to score in the corner. A few minutes later he sliced through the home defence to add his second try, which was within conversion range. Jeff Storey duly obliged to widen the gap to 6-27. After twenty five minutes, Brigade's forwards took control for a brief spell and were rewarded with a well deserved try. Immediately from the restart, however, Seaton redressed the balance with a try from Chris Allen, which was converted by Storey. Seaton's scrum had been effective throughout the game and that ascendancy enabled Murry Stockdale to crash over for their seventh and closing try but Brigade were unfortunate to have a try disallowed on the stroke of full time.
