Exploiting a gap in the Welsh defensive line Ms Roast’s dummy pass wrong-footed the full back and sealed the Ladies first points of the match with a dive over the try line. Jayne Goodliffe, working it on the wing this match converted the scrummie’s try for the Club.
Despite the atmospheric temperatures, everyone’s blood was up on the pitch and a series of bone-crunching tackles unfortunately resulted in Welsh’s number 10 being carried off the pitch. Taking advantage of the momentary lull in the game, one of our own Welsh players, Kay Rees tore gashes in the Welsh defensive line; unlucky not to score some points of her own.
The second half saw the Ladies come storming out onto the pitch, taking advantage of the pressure that the Welsh had felt before the break. A quick swing out from the forwards to the backs saw centre Sarah Butler decimate the Welsh back line, running outside of them to secure a try in the left hand corner. Quins were unable to make the conversion.
Not willing to give in to the visitors, Welsh came back and their dynamic number 8, later their Forward of the Match, punched through the Ladies’ defensive line and reminded Quins this would not be a walk over.
The temperamental weather made it difficult for both sides to put any running rugby together. As such, the second half was characterised by gritty determination from both sides and a petulant refusal by either to capitulate. Quins dominated the Welsh line in the last 10 minutes of the match, camping out on the Welsh try line but unable to ground the ball held up by a tenacious Welsh defence.
The final scoreline 12-5 to Quins.
Quins Ladies take on Rosslyn Park on the 07 December in their next league fixture.
