Quins kicked off into the wind and immediately drove deep into the opposition’s territory. Scrum-half Karen Cardy forced the turnover at the breakdown and sent the ball out wide. Looping around the back line, Cardy took the pop pass and offloaded nicely for a team-mate to touch down.
Camberley quickly regrouped and from the restart put together some strong passages of play, driving deep into the Quins 22. However, the Ladies defence was strong, with some fine tackles made by Karen Cardy, who saved a certain try. Quins were awarded the 5-metre scrum, and some determined running by the scrum-half saw her cover the length of the field to score. Within minutes, Cardy was on the march forward again, going over the line for her second try of the match.
Half-time score: Harlequin Ladies 17 – Camberley 0
The half-time team talk invigorated Camberley and only the spanking Quins defence prevented them from scoring. But Quins quickly made the transition from defence to attack as Cardy started a well executed move that saw Quins run the length of the field in nine phases to score.
The last try of the game came shortly before the final whistle. Scrum-half Cardy controlled the maul well and her quick reactions allowed a team-mate to break off the back, powering over the line to score.
Final Score: Harlequin Ladies 27 – Camberley 0.
Harlequin Ladies extend a huge thank you to Camberley for accommodating the match at such short notice.
And finally, this was the final game in Quins colours for one of our squad members, Karen “Spanky” Cardy, who is emigrating this week. We all wish her the best of luck with her move to Holland. Spanky – you’ve been a true Harlequin Lady for the past 3 seasons, and you will be sorely missed.
