Pool made two changes to the selected line up, player coach Alan Brown was working, so Dave Ryan slotted into the number 8 position and powerful winger Martyn Ryan was unavailable so Anthony Burgon stepped into the side to replace Ryan.
Hartlepool gave debuts to Brett Cullaine (prop), Lewis Humble (centre), Anthony Burgon (wing) and Mark Burnside (Second half sub centre)
After ten minutes, the home left winger scored in the corner to give the hosts a lead. The same player scored after twenty five minutes following a well rehearsed move. Dean Ryan and Liam Lister both went close for the visitors before the home side effectively wrapped up the game with a third try in the last minute of the first half giving a half time score 17-0. An improved second half performance saw Pool take the game to their hosts. Pool eventually got on the score sheet with a well work try which saw second half sub Andy Small at hooker crash over for a well deserved try with Wilson converting.
Hartlepool will be looking to kick start the D&N2 league campaign with home game against Whitley Bay Rockliffe on Saturday who recorded a home win over Houghton 28-3.
