Hartlepool continue their pre-season warm up with a friendly fixture against local rivals Hartlepool Rovers on Saturday. Both teams suffered losses the previous week in their respective opening fixtures, with Rovers losing to Billingham and Hartlepool suffering a home defeat against a strong and well drilled Scarborough team, that included a couple of new recruits from the southern hemisphere. Hartlepool also had the misfortune to lose one of their star players from last season, Paul Burgon, who suffered a serious shoulder injury at the end of the game which will see him miss most of the season. They will also be without backs Lee Dodgson, Chris Williamson, Adam Redhead and Marty Ryan who are unavailable, and prop forward Andy Cummins who is working. Last season's player of the year, Dean Ryan, will face a fitness test on Saturday morning prior to kick off.

Despite these loses of several key players, coach Alan Brown is confident that the home team will field a strong squad to test their local rivals over the 80 minutes, with the players working extremely hard in training this week, culminating in a hard session on Thursday evening.

Rovers have several 'Old Boys' returning home in their squad for the season, including the three Foreman brothers, Stewart Palmer and Michael Taylor, who should all receive a warm welcome from the learned Mayfield Park home supporters.
