Airbus are out of the league cup
By Steve Hughes - September 2 2004
Airbus are out, but the damage was done 2 weeks ago in the 5-1 home defeat by Welshpool. The away leg was better, but the wingmakers went down 2-0. >
Rob Lythe would have been more happy with his sides display in the away leg, and the wingmakers easily matched the hosts in terms of possession and chances.

There seemed to be a renewed spirit to the Airbus team and Welshpool were on the back foot for most of the first half.

Chances fell to Smart, Accott and Macintosh, but once again they were not taken and it looked like the half would end at 0-0.

Then 5 minutes before the break a header back to the keeper was wide, and Hughes failed to gather the ball, giving Welshpool a gift of a goal, and once again Airbus trailed at the break.

However, in the second half heads stayed up and AIrbus were once again unlicky not to score several times.

Welshpool did score again though, breaking down the left on 70 minutes and the game ended 2-0.

Airbus will take encouragement from this game which they deserved at least a draw. If Airbus can start taking some of the chances they are creating then it will not be long before they are back to winning ways.
