The Airbus preparation was not ideal though and the 1 hour journey turned into 2 hours folowing road closures. The delayed kick off did nothing to put off the wingmakers though and they began the game in confident mood.
The back three of Deane, Dodd and Hughes looked solid and did not afford the hosts any early chances. While in the middle of the pitch Dowdridge, Desourmaux and Pearce were outstanding and controlled proceedings. On the break Smart looked the dangerous outlet whilst Macintosh and Hussaney worked hard up front.
Newtown tried to play some good football but all attempts were thwarted by the determined Airbus players. Any shots that the hosts did manage were well saved and held by A Hughes in the Airbus goal.
Throughout the first half it was Airbus who looked the most likely side to score though. Desourmaux and Macintosh both went close and Smart chose to cross, when the shot was the better option.
The second half was much the same, although Newtown did create more chances. Their best chance came on the hour mark but the strikers attempted lob was well saved by Hughes. At the other end Dowdridge went close with a 30 yard drive that just went past the post.
The deadlock was broken though with 20 minutes remaining. A superbly taken free-kick from A Thomas caught the Newtown goalkeeper unaware and the ball flew into the bottom corner, to give Airbus a well deserved lead.
Ten minutes later Thomas fired another free-kick into the top corner, but the goal was stangely disallowed by the referee.
Newtown pressed for the last 10 minutes trying to find an equaliser, but Airbus held firm and kept the clean sheet they deserved, and with it a 1-0 victory.
The wingmakers can now go into the next game in confident mood after a marvellous display and a well earned 3 points.
