Official Scottish Rugby League
Eagle: D Thomson Eagles Fly The Flag In Challenge Cup
By Gavin Willacy - January 28 2008
Scottish Champions Edinburgh Eagles represent us in the world famous Rugby League Challenge Cup in Yorkshire this Saturday. The Eagles have drawn Wakefield side Normanton Knights away in the Carnegie Challenge Cup first round. >
Normanton are no stranger to Scottish opposition having faced Fife Lions at the same stage of the competition last year, emerging victorious from that tie before being haulted by league giants Widnes in round three after a thrilling win against the Navy at Portsmouth in round two. Normanton play in the second division of the BARLA National Conference.

"Every side hopes for a home draw and it would have been great for the Challenge Cup to return to Edinburgh after it was so well received when the final was played at Murrayfield a couple of years ago," said Eagles Head Coach Angus McNab. "I have had a brief look at how Normanton are going this year and by the looks of things it's going to be a very difficult task. Its' cup footie though so anything can happen but I expect nobody in rugby league to give us a chance and everybody loves an underdog. It's our big day out and all the lads will love the occasion and give their all."

The game will take place on Saturday 2 February in Normanton, kick off time 1.30pm.
