Official Scottish Rugby League
Andrew Henderson HENDERSON BOYS CAN’T WAIT TO HIT IT OFF
By Gavin Willacy - November 2 2007
Rugby League brothers Andrew and Kevin Henderson will play on the same team for the first time in their professional careers on Sunday as Scotland take on Wales in a crucial World Cup qualifier in Glasgow. >
Hooker Andrew and centre Kevin should line up in a Scotland side that must avoid defeat by seven or more points to qualify for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup in Australia.

“I’m really looking forward to playing with my brother for the first time,” said Andrew, who will be winning his seventh cap. “I’ve played against him loads of times but never in the same team so it’s going to be extra special on Sunday.”

Andrew, 28, who captained Castleford Tigers to promotion into Super League this year, lives and works down the road from Kevin, 27, who plays in the elite league for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats. Born in Torquay in Devon with father Martin from Glasgow, they relocated to Australia’s Central Coast when they were at primary school. “We’ll have a few family there on Sunday – my uncle, my auntie and some cousins will be representing the Henderson clan. Mum and Dad are in Australia so they’ll miss it but hopefully they’ll see us at the World Cup instead.”

Youngest brother, Ian, made his Scotland debut last year in a game Andrew missed for personal reasons and he has just moved from Bradford to Auckland where he is now preparing for a new career with New Zealand Warriors.

“I missed playing with Ian last year, which was really disappointing,” admitted Andrew, who has also played for Barrow, Salford and Balmain Tigers. “But I encouraged Kevin to play for Scotland, told him what a good set-up it was, and I was very proud to see him make his debut in France last Saturday. Hopefully all three of us will be playing for Scotland at the World Cup in Australia next year: that will be a dream come true.”
