France Federale 36 Scotland A 12
Scotland went down to defeat in their first game in France Federale in Perpignan after collapsing to concede four tries in the last 15 minutes.
France took the lead 11 minutes in when prop Julien Duborg broke the line and ran in from 25 metres out but, setting the tale of the afternoon, France could not convert. They converted just once from seven attempts.
France loose forward Osmont broke from his own 30m line and popped a pass up for the supporting Oliver Bessiere to go over on 31 minutes
Five minutes into the second half, France winger Gaylord Severac unfortunately broke his leg leading to a long delay. On 52 minutes Bessiere broke clear from his own 30 metre line and fed Serrano to score, Bessiere converting to make it 14-0 to the home side.
Soon after France sub Serrano was sin-binned for punching Edinburgh’s Greg Wallace on the ground and during his absence, Scotland pulled a try back through Neil Lowe, converted by Edinburgh’s Barry Earl.
Scotland were right back in the game when St Albans centre Dene Miller scored a superb solo try with a mazy run, converted by Barry Earl to reduce the lead to 14-12.
But France regained their lead when Cousseau scored a classic wingers try, cutting in from the left touchline and Picard converted to make it 20-12. When Duborg drove over on 65 minutes the writing was on the wall for Gus McNabb’s side and the game was over when Picard’s 30 metre diagonal run saw him touch down in the right corner. Osmont scored another for the French three minutes from time and Cousseau crossed for the final try five minutes into injury time.
