So you thought 64 all out was bad??
Well check this score out ....
Dave Moore's "Ashes to Ashes" indoor 6 a side team, playing in the Mornington Peninsula winter competition in the 5th Division (yes, of 5), made it through to the semi finals played last night.
The team, consisting of one player who'd describe himself as a current outdoor cricketer (no benefit at all when playing indoors by the way), three guys who once played cricket at school (but only because they had to) between 12 and 40 years ago, a tennis player and a Barry Who Chucks the World's Biggest/Slowest Pies, restricted the opposition to 120 off their 12 overs. We were delighted with this, having conceded 204 against them in the league earlier in the season.
Although we'd only scored 50 against them in that earlier game we reckoned we'd improved since then. Indeed, we'd regularly been getting 30s to 60s per pair recently so 120 must have been gettable?
Except our first pair (which included Barry Who's Only Shot is the Dink in the Air to Silly Mid-Off), thinking for some strange reason they needed to score 7 per ball, had a Red Mist Moment and actually scored -40 off their 4 overs. Yes, that does say MINUS 40. The second pair, knowing they needed to get half of the remaining 160, and further hampered by a pulled hamstring, went down in the same way, for another -40. The final pair therefore needed 200 at 6.25 per ball. Having failed to score off their first ball and the match therefore being mathematically lost they then decided to bat left handed, and managed the princely total of 20.
Final score -60 and a new low record for the league.
Better luck next season guys.
In late breaking news, we can report that half of the squad has also formed a Spring season beach volleyball team, rumoured to be called the Whales.
