A very average day for the FCG boys, at least the seconds and thirds are still winning, meanwhile one point for the ones! >
Fylde 133 for 8
A.Furniss 74 Not Out

Fulwood 136 for 3
M.Smith 50 Not Out
C.Gunn 41 Not Out

My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.

Bit of Gladiator for you there, a lovely film, not seen it for a while but never the less, a particular favourite of the great Paul Nutter! I choose this particular film after Saturdays extremely average performance, a bit of fight is required, a response if you will, is most definitely expected!

Onto the cricket, we arrived at the FCG in blazing sunshine extremely early, for with Tuesday nights wash out at nets many decided they wanted that little bit more practice before the big game! A noble effort and hopefully this week we can continue with the work ethic at this weeks net. With all the precipitation over the previous week the track was looking soft but as it has in previous weeks it played pretty well, obviously it offered something for the bowler but you could still play shots on it.

After some throw downs where Marcel became the 3rd player to be banned from hitting the ball in the fielding drills I strolled out for the toss, which surprisingly, I won. I decided to bat, looking at the scores you may think that this was a bad idea, well possibly, however, in recent weeks with the weather, chasing has been difficult down at the FCG and the best conditions have been batting first, on this occasion Fulwood bowled very well and we batted, well we did not bat very well.

It was a disappointing day with the bat; we lost early wickets and continued to do so throughout our innings. I’m not going to analyse the dismissals here, some were disappointing and others, well sometimes you just get a good ball and there is not a lot you can do about it. The hitting towards the end of the innings was not quite enough to get us the extra batting point that would have been useful. Smudger batted nicely before hitting out with a couple of overs left and being caught in the deep, Jimmy looked in very good touch hitting an exquisite cover drive before getting a ball that “ragged square” from the Fullwood off spinner!

Danny capped off a good day personally with a very good spell of bowling, with 2 for 9 off his 8 overs! Unfortunately after the early wickets we took we could not quite make the telling breakthrough as Fulwood batted very well! A couple more quick wickets and we would have been very much in the game but alas it was not to be and we ended the day rather disappointingly with only one point for our efforts!

WOW, there were 3 nominations this week, the first was Beefsteak, for stepping on Justin Pkr’s foot in the process of fielding the ball, and off the top of my head I cannot remember although I know he did do something else, it was a close run thing in the voting! Secondly was Bomber Duerden, for a terrible dive over the top of the ball at mid on, to be fair to him Phil jumping out of the way of the ball did not really help matters! But it was terrible! And finally, and the winner was Power, I voted Power for his run out alone! Again I’m sure he did more than that but if he did nt it is enough and as for that back flip, you are an abomination Power you really are!

The Casino night at the club was excellent as always, a lot of effort goes into staging these events and a big thank you must go to all those who helped with this to make it an enjoyable evening, even if Beefsteak did not manage to stock the bar properly!!!! Running out of Vodka, I mean honestly, who throws a shoe!

In other news there has been a spate of Barry Pie impersonators this week, having made the trip to Whittingham to umpire the Sunday eleven, I was shocked to see not one but two FCG players eating pies in the warm ups, Catdogfish and Landman were both spotted paying homage to the great Barry Pie. Anyway, I was watching the news the other day when Cadbury’s had called a press conference to bring back the brand of “Wispa” the lovely chocolate bar, Dave McDoogal was talking to the press about the return of the popular brand and all off a sudden the camera zoomed out, who should be stood at the side of the room, Barry Willis eating a pie. Unbelievable Jeff!!!!

Right I shall leave you on my way to Russia reading the great Snickers Love Story which was written by the aptly named Geronimo Blythe who starred in an original version of Carry on Camping that was filmed in a disused quarry in downtown Seattle which rather surprisingly was used as the set for scenes in the 1986 Care Bears movie which was ingeniously titled, Care Bears The Movie.
