If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, if you can trust yourself when all men doubt you but make allowance for their doubting too, if you can wait and not be tired by waiting, or being lied about, don't deal in lies, or being hated, don't give way to hating, and yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream--and not make dreams your master, if you can think--and not make thoughts your aim; if you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, and stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings and risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss, and lose, and start again at your beginnings and never breath a word about your loss; if you can force your heart and nerve and sinew to serve your turn long after they are gone, and so hold on when there is nothing in you except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!" If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch, if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you; If all men count with you, but none too much, if you can fill the unforgiving minute with sixty seconds' worth of distance run, yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, and--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

Absolutely nothing to do with cricket!!!!

Anyway, how are we all today? Just thought I’d chuck a bit of Rudyard at you this morning, add a bit of culture to proceedings, well you might think that, actually I was just watching Mike Bassett : England Manager and enjoyed the press conference when Dave recites the poem, If! Bit of a long title for a poem if you ask me! I’d of probably gone with something like “everyone only remembers the last bitabix my son” bit catchier I think anyway!

Right onto the cricket! After a week of rain the FCG was a wee bit wet, although the pitch was still reasonably firm considering the deluge we had, especially on Thursday evening! I, Myself, Keedo and Bomber Duerden arrived early to partake in a bit of tea making while Whatkey sat on the outfield mower cutting the outfield! Keedo did end up going and sitting on the mower for a while and ended up getting pelted with tennis balls in much hilarity, then Lionel Duerden sat on it for a while not knowing how to stop, I seem to recall him having serious problems trying to avoid the sightscreen and avoid ending up in the compound!

Everyone arrived on time as is becoming the norm, no finage again! By the way, we did not do fines this week, Power can you sort that out on Tuesday? Again as normal we had some throw downs, then some bowling, and then finally we did some fielding. Now at this point we were fielding quite well, taking our catches and firing it over the sticks to Keedo, it was at this point we decided to have a bit of fun by firing the ball at Keedo’s feet, don’t think you appreciated that did you boss? We had a laugh though!

After a bit of a chat I rather surprisingly won the toss and on a typically English April day I decided that we should like to have a bowl first. I think it was one of them days in the field, the first few over’s set the tone with catches being put down and some sloppy ground fielding. After a few stern words on a couple of occasions we did eventually lift ourselves and field much more like how we can, we started doing the basics, getting to the stumps, backing up the throws attacking the ball in the outfield, extremely basic stuff but things we were not doing at the start! This was before we talk about the many catches put down. Expect some fielding practice at nets on Tuesday!!!

Again after teas we had another chat to discuss how we were going to go about chasing the target. We saw how important it was in their innings to keep wickets in hand, as you can accelerate a great deal towards the end, we must avoid losing wickets in quick succession. So after losing wickets in quick succession Power and Carleton went about rebuilding the innings and laying a platform for which we could attack at the end. They both did a very good job but in the end the run rate got a bit too much, mainly because we again continued to lose wickets before Phil was last man out with 2 over’s remaining. I hear you made a nice 70 odd on Sunday Phil, well done chief!

In the end a disappointing day really, but we did pick up 4 bonus points, it is important that should we lose, we pick up as many points as possible! We have a few things to work on and at half way 60 points is not a bad total for our first season back, it is important we start the second half of the season well, in good spirits still enjoying our cricket, which after all is why we play. Let’s not forget that, but we do have some work to do on our fielding especially after this week’s display, which was a little surprising considering we have fielded very well this year!

WOW this week, I’m not actually sure if it was awarded, although there were rumours Keedo had retained the shirt for his little strop after being dismissed! Lionel Duerden made an interesting point when someone mentioned he may get it for his antics on the mower, he said its not a proper reason, when someone asked what did you win the shirt for his response would be nearly running into the sightscreen with the mower but missing it, it is actually a good point! So I think Keedo you have retained the shirt and you are expected to wear it at nets on Tuesday!

In other news, I was wandering into Poulton before the start of the game with Lionel as it happens, anyway we were wandering around to get a sandwich for our lunch, when we walked past a local newsagents, outside was an advertising board. We stopped outside for a couple of minutes to have a look, I’m not sure really what we were looking for, but you never know, anyway, there it was bold as brass in the middle of the display, a big picture of Barry Willis eating a pie. I could nt work out what it was for then I noticed a web address below, www.donateapie.com, terrific that son, I’ve sent you a Chicken and Mushroom pie.

Right, I shall leave you on my way to Russia in a miniature version of the A Team van with an alpha-numeric Labrador whose owner was a charismatic Car park attendant in the notorious paparazzi baiting area of Monaco whose most memorable moment in the job was issuing a €30 fine to Keith Chegwin who was meeting with the King to promote his 2007 PS2 game “Cheggers’ Party Quiz”.
