BAC/EE Preston 60 for 9
J.Mounsey 30
P.Hague 6 for 15

Can I go? The man he say “ok!” you know who your mates are!!! Anyway, enough about Carling adverts; we all had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend! May I begin with mine and Lionel Duerden’s Friday afternoon, we were driving along in Carlton, when we were required to stop in a queue at the traffic lights, we stopped outside the Leaping Fish, when Lionel leant out the window and asked a complete stranger where the Castle Gardens were, it was a most humorous episode!

Onto the cricket, we were all down at the FCG on time, when I say we were all there, I mean everyone except Barry Willis, who when I rang at 11.50am, the official meeting time, he asked me what I wanted and said he was at home with his feet up! We made it down to the Riverside in plenty of time as it was a monsoon in Preston. The FCG boys made full use of the rain to partake in a lovely 5 a side game in the rain on a fantastic 5 a side pitch we were permitted to use!

Eventually the rain stopped at around 3.20, we started 15 minutes later! I promptly lost the toss and we were inserted, while this was not ideal it worked out for the best as we put together an extremely competitive score of 182 for 7 off our 25 overs! We batted very well which was pleasing after the efforts the week before, Marcel in particular was got us off to a complete flyer which set the platform for the rest of us to come in and “chin it”, he hit three lovely Graham Hick’s towards the club house!

Barry continued his campaign to retain the WOW t-shirt very early on, firstly he was late, then he came out to play football with an umbrella, then the first scoring shot he slapped it to deep extra cover, a long way out on BAC’s ground and only ran one, that was because as he pushed off to run he ended up face down in the pitch! How did you not get WOW chief? Well I can answer that one in two words! Kenneth Moore! Now Kenneth lost the plot towards the end of the response, requesting the batsman not point his bat at him, as he left the dressing after the game the entire team each pulled our bats out and pointed at him upon his return!

It was a very good display in the field bowling many dots all the time building pressure, Stuart with 6 wickets the pick of the bowlers! Although Rupert continued his quest for the league averages with a wicket maiden! There were a couple of other incidents during the game, firstly I shall have to ask you all to enquire what Power was doing sweeping a straight ball at ankle height, LBW son, you can walk for them!!! Secondly there was Lionel Duerden, he did a miss field which BAC thought may have gone over the ropes! Well, Bomber had flipped, he is still going on about it now, we believe you mate; it did not go over the ropes! Honestly, we do!!! There was a BAC supporter stood next to you so we do just about believe you! You were probably talking again were nt you!!!!!????

We stayed for a beer as normal before embarking on a return trip to the FCG for the Murder Mystery evening, for the second teams do. A lot of effort had gone into the evening especially from the Power’s but I’m sure there were others helping out that I was not aware off! I can’t actually recall who won but I do remember the pizza being excellent!

In other news, funnily enough I was watching the news the other evening, when the update on the Olympic Stadium in Beijing filled the screen, it looks a very strange stadium, almost like a monster birds nest. Anyway, they were saying how the construction may not be complete in time and there was still a lot of work to do before the Olympics begin in 50 odd day’s time. Anyway, after the presenter had finished speaking they panned around the building site, and I had to do a double take. Who should be sitting on top of a JCB, Barry Willis having a pie! Unbelievable Jeff!!

Right, I shall leave you on my way to Russia in a 1994 white Nissan Vitara that Shaka Khan stole from an Oxymoron on Oxford Street when there was a fire drill and the HMV string quartet were disconcerted into playing the theme tune to Fraggle Rock during the 18th repeat of Shrek on Christmas Eve in Schofields wine bar, Blackpool!
