TECH v Acklam
After the blow of having to cancel last weeks trip to Barnard
Castle, TECH will look to get their season belatedly underway tomorrow when
Acklam are the visitors to Grayfields. The cancellation of the Castle game would
always have been disappointing but the fact that TECH had 17 players in
attendance but not enough front row specialists made it even more of a let down.
The determination of the players to take part in a game of rugby was highlighted
though by the fact that almost all of them travelled up to Brinkburn where by
all playing they enabled the depleted West 4th/Ams side to turn out and defeat
Yarm 2.
On Wednesday this week around the same number of TECH players
held a meeting at the Grayfields Clubhouse when they all expressed a
determination to regroup and continue with their Durham/Northumberland Division
2 campaign. It was agreed by all the squad, which currently comprises of a mix
of experienced and young players currently being coached by Howie Murray that it
was important that they continue to pull together to turn the current difficult
situation around. It was recognised that it was important that the size of the
squad be improved and to that end it was hoped that ex players currently plying
their trade elsewhere as well as other new players could be attracted over to
Grayfields to strengthen the pool of players.
There is little doubt the current players have benefitted from
the Kiwi Murray's involvement and it is hoped his presence can be a magnet to
other local players so that they can improve themselves and the TECH side.
For tomorrows game TECH have again named a squad from which
their final line up will be selected. They look forward to hopefully a full turn
out plus some of the many other players who are still registered to play for the
club though currently playing elsewhere in the town. Though the season is going
to be difficult until they get a settled squad there are enough good players in
it to make TECH a competitive side at their current level. Hopefully the next
few weeks will see some of their ex players return to their roots in a
determined effort to re-establish the side.
