NLD/N. Leics League Match:
Panthers 69 - 8 Stamford RUFC
North Derbyshire Panthers played host to new second placed Stamford. Having already beaten the visitors at their place, Panthers looked to this top of the table encounter to consolidate their position as league leaders and to mover further adrift of the opposition. Panthers have produced a number of good displays this season but this was their best by far. Chalkie White marshalled the pack to such an extent that they won ten scrums against the head, a remarkable achievement against a side noted for their forward play. Stamford were unable to impose themselves in any area of play and were constantly on the back foot. An excellent referee allowed the game to flow and his astute judgement ensured that both teams played the game with passion and fairness. The opening try of the game came from the ever reliable Bomber Graham after good work by the forwards. Stamford replied almost immediately with a penalty. This was soon cancelled out by Graham who slotted over with a twenty yard penalty kick. With Panthers now at their best and a very partisan crowd urging them on further tries were inevitable. One each from Nick McVeigh, Ivan Stevenson, Rob Collins and Mark Liszka. Graham rounded up the half with two penalties and a conversion. Stamford ran in an intercepted kick to score their only try.
It did not seem possible for the Panthers to improve upon their first half display but the way that all members of the team played in the second half was awesome. The quality of all sections, either in offence or defence was excellent. Stamford for all their endeavour could not cope and were left in no doubt who are the "Top Cats" in this league. Panthers piled on the agony and soon rattled up the score. With tries from Rob Collins, Ollie Campbell, Ivan Stevenson, Silvino Francisco and a great try from a push over scrum by Chalkie White. Campbell with a penalty and conversion and Sam Patel with two conversions saw off a spirited Stamford side. A great game played in fantastic spirit, Panthers running out winners by 69 points to 8. The Club would like to wish Ollie Campbell all the best while he is away in the USA.
