REDCAR U17s v DURHAM U17s 16th.Jan.2005
Durham arrived at Redcar with a big reputation, and some impressive results to back it up, but the home team did not let this worry them, taking the game to the visitors from the kick off.8 mins. Had gone when Redcar were awarded a penalty in front of the posts which Richie Young confidently dispatched to put Redcar in front.
Redcar continued to enjoy most of the possession in an absorbing opening, but were unable to turn possession in to points, then after 20mins. Durham scored two tries in two minutes, converting both, to take the initiative.
The home team regrouped and battled hard to get back in the game, but conceded a third try just before half time to reach the break 21-3 down.
Redcar lost Mark Ellis with concussion early in the second half, and having no replacements were grateful to the visitors for the loan of a No.8 to keep the game competitive.
The Durham Backs began to show their skills and strengths, and enjoyed a 15minute
purple patch, during which they scored four tries to put the match beyond Reducer.
With 10 ins. remaining the Redcar Forwards were rewarded for their hard work when a period of pressure, using strength and power allowed the guesting No.8 to score a try, which was converted by Richie Young.
Durham hit back to restore their lead with a last minute try, and ran out victors by 52 points to 10.
Rich Young played well for Reducer despite an injury picked up the day before, he and Kevin Hartley linking well, with both making some important tackles. But once again Andrew Wills received the vote as Man of the Match, as always he led his team by example, and never stopped fighting and chasing for the cause.
