Redcar v Middlesbrough and Ryton – 24/10/2004
Under 12s
The first match was against Middlesbrough under 11s, Redcar actually field a mix of under 11s and 12s and they never seemed in any trouble. The Redcar forwards controlled the play and with new scrum half Andy Little linking up well with Craig Newlands it was only a matter of time until Redcar scored. By half time the score was 20 – 0 to Redcar, Redcar made a lot of changes to bring everybody else into the game this allowed Middlesbrough to come back into it but Redcar still never looked like losing their lead, final score 25 – 5 to Redcar.
The tries were scored by Perry Goodwin, Daniel Addison, Andy Little and Craig Newlands got 2.
The second match against Ryton under 12s was a harder fought game and even though Redcar took an early lead Ryton held out and only just missed out on a try when the ball was dropped over the try line. At half time the score was 7 – 0 to Redcar, but they had missed out on a couple of tries when Robert Froom was high tackled and Ryton gave away a penalty instead of conceding and a misunderstanding with the linesman also by Robert. Even though Ryton had some good possession The Redcar defence was up to the challenge and never gave way. Final score 19 – 0 to Redcar.
All 3 tries and 2 conversions going to Craig Newlands.
