Heanor Town CC 2004 season preview
By Adam Harchuk - April 12 2004
An early May trip to Stavely greets the 1st team in there bid to secure promotion to 3N. Stavely 2nds could prove to be a decent side due to the success of their 1st XI last season. They gained promotion to the Premier League. The 2nds go to Wirksworth 4ths. >
A new season and a new era greets Heanor Town for 2004. The 1st XI will be lead by Paul Marshall with Andy Brear as his vice captain. The 2nd team will be lead by Ian Brackenbury and as far as im aware, no vice captain has been appointed.
Early doors the 1st team head north with a visit to Stavely Welfare. They could prove hard to beat due to the possible players they recruit from there promotion winning 1sr team who gained access to the Premier League after finishing 2nd in divison 1.. The 2nds travel to Wirkswirth 4th XI. The 2nds will prove a serious force as its safe to say the majority of the players could hold their own many divisions higher, and playing against a newly developed 4th team, it could prove a very one sided affair. Both sides miss the 1st round of matches on April 24th so our season starts on May 1st
The 2nd round of matches see the 1st team travel to Ashbourne. Ashbourne are a side you never sure what you are going to get. You would always start as favourites against them, but they have one or two class performers who on their day can tear you apart, Hill, Gadsby and Flack are 3 players who spring to mind. The 2nds travel to Belper Meadows 4ths. This is another game you would expect them to come out on top in.
Next for the 1sts is the 1st home match. They play hosts to Butterley United. Again its another game Heanor will be expected to win, but they have their match winners in Mark Dance and Chris Knighton who on their day can win matches. They have a stubborn lower order so if bowling 2nd, you have to work hard to bowl them out. The 2nds who have to play the majority of their matches on a Sunday due to them sharing the Town Ground with Shipley just for this season, play hosts to Nutbrook 3rd XI. Nutbrook are a good club, so the 2nds should be pushed in this one.

The squad have a talented group of players and hopefully will be pushing for honours this season. If not then so be it, at the end of the day the amalgamation shows that the club will be happy to get 2 teams out on the field and any success along the way will certainly be appriciated and welcome with open arms!
