Throughout the week there are teatime specials between 5 pm and 7pm – two main course meals for £10 on selected items.
Sunday lunches are proving very popular. The Mothers Day lunch is fully booked, catering for about 120 people ! Book early for Easter Sunday lunch (12-4pm). You have been warned !!!
Mark is also planning a Friday Fish Night on March 14th. See Bar Staff for menu and bookings. For Saturday theme nights see under Social Events.
“Best wishes to May on her retirement after 21 tears service behind the bar”
SOCIAL EVENTS
Over 90 members and friends enjoyed the Valentines Dinner with excellent value for food and entertainment. Further similar dinners are planned - lookout for details. The Valentines Dinner was sold out in three days.
The Quiz Night on Saturday 1st March has been cancelled due to lack of interest. The Entertainments Committee has planned a series of Saturday theme nights - the next one an Italian Night on 14th April.
PROPOSED NEW RULES & THE RED BOOK
There will be a most important Special General Meeting on Friday 4th April at 7.30.
The Meeting will debate and vote on fundamental changes to our rules, which will have an important bearing on the direction of the club over the next few years. It is vital that a good attendance is present on this occasion.
The Rules Committee has produced a radical review of the Red Book. There was an Open Forum in February, when the Captain and Tony Winfield explained a number of issues mostly relating to Equality and consequent membership categories. The driving force behind many of the proposed changes is financial, in order to take advantage of the CASC requirements which will enable the Club to claim rate rebate up to £18,000 for every financial year. The issue of equality for members is also highly important.
The Forum saw a good turnout of lady members, who were concerned about the level of future subscriptions. Although the level of subscriptions is a matter for the AGM meeting in December, an indication of the proposed subscription tariff will be made clear before the Special Meeting i.e. subscriptions of the various categories of members e.g. over 65s, 5-day members etc. The tariff will also include a proposed rebate to members with reduced access to the course, i.e. lady and juniors.
The General Committee has now reviewed and approved the recommendations of the Rules Committee in the light of comments made at the Open Forum. Members will be sent a copy of the proposed changes in full.
PROFESSIONAL
Applications for the post of Professional at Seaton Carew Golf Club closed at the end of February. A short-list will be made and interviews completed in mid March.
Mark Rogers leaves at the end of March – all accounts will be honoured but it is recommended that members spend surplus account money before that date. Competition winners are now paid by voucher (not via the professional). These vouchers can be collected from the office and redeemed either now with Mark Rogers or later with the new professional.
WEBSITE
A new website www.seatoncarewgolfclub.co.uk is being built up but it is nearly fully functional. (if unavailable look at the old site for results fixtures etc) Please access the site to establish our link. You will need to register for member’s details.
COURSE MATTERS
Pitchmarks ??? See one, repair two. Help us to look after our greens. A pitchmark repaired quickly, mends quickly. The bunker experiment with astroturf at the 17th met predictable problems. The base improved initially with excellent sand on top of the astroturf but the high winds negated the work as the sand was blown out. We intend to keep trying for a limited period by lowering the bunker floor and reducing the size of the bunker again. Meanwhile watch out for the blue lines and a dropping zone. We intend to stay on the Old Course throughout the summer including the Festival.
COUNTY CRICKETERS SOCIETY
Please note the arrangements for Saturday 8th March, which will affect many members. The County Cricketers Society has a weekend in the Club with two matches taking place. On the Saturday there is a shotgun start so that everybody finishes together. The shotgun start is at 1.30 from holes 1 to 14. Anyone not involved in the competition and starting a round after 10.00 must ensure that they have completed the 14th by 1.30. There will also be a window of opportunity for members to tee off from the first between 1.40 and 2.15, playing a full round
The Sunday event is a normal start with the tee reserved from 8.30 to 9.30 a.m.
ENGLAND v IRELAND
Ian Phillips is again organising the traditional St Patrick’s Day competition. It is an enjoyable event with a golf competition followed by a snack and gathering afterwards. See Ian and the noticeboard for details.
DATES OF BIRTH
A repeat request from the Treasurer for dates of birth from all members who joined before 2000. We still collect EMail addresses for members.
