COMPETITIONS & FIXTURES
The Red Book will not be available until early March. There is a calendar of fixtures on the Notice Board and also on the website (under FIXTURES 2008). These lists include team matches and the visiting parties booked well in advance. For late amendments during the year refer as usual to the newsletter and the notice boards.

MARK ROGERS
We very much regret to report that our Professional Mark Rogers is leaving the club to take up a similar post at The York Golf Club at Strensall. Mark has been our professional for nearly seven years, during which he has been a loyal supporter of this club and its assets. He helped revive the junior section of the club and was always alive to the marketing opportunities that our excellent course offers. Mark has a great reputation as a teaching professional. His personality and presence will be much missed when he leaves us in the early springtime. James Hare will be going to Strensall with Mark. We wish Mark every success in his new venture.

BAR & CATERING
The noticeboard carries a notice regarding the situation concerning the House Manager, the Bar and the Kitchen arrangements. For legal reasons no further comment can be made at this stage.
The Committee has accepted a franchise arrangement to cover the bar and catering services as provided by Mark Jones. The financial position on this matter is presented in the statement on the noticeboard

ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS
Annual subscriptions were due on the 1st January and should have been paid at the latest by 31st January. All members in arrears after that date will not be able to play in competitions and will be issued with written invoices with 14 days to pay, after which non-payers are no longer members of the club.
An audit of the club’s records is being carried out. Members of long standing (more than 10 years) are asked to confirm dates of birth at the Main Office whenever possible. We continue to ask members to supply the Office with an E-mail address if you have not already done so.

LOCKERS
Locker rentals of £10 are now due and should be paid as soon as possible. To the Treasurer Jim Cockburn. Rentals should be paid separately from the annual subscriptions.

TSU WINTER FOURSOMES
Only one of our 6 surviving teams made it through to the last sixteen of the TSU Winter Foursomes and then only at the expense of another Seaton team. Michael Wilson & Mark Westmoreland beat former winners Barry & Steve Burton 4&3 and are rewarded with a home tie against another pair of former winners Bob Hardman & Keith Jones from Hartlepool.

RULES COMMITTEE
The new rules committee has already met with a mandate to produce a radical review of the rules in the Red Book. They have reported back to the General Committee with their draft suggestions. The suggestions will be presented to club members at a special open forum to be held before the end of February. The Club Committee will then consider the proposals in the light of members’ comments and present the members with the proposed changes for approval at a Special General Meeting of the Club before the end March. The intention is to be able to claim the CASC Rate Rebate as early as possible.

MARKETING
Our Marketing Committee Chairman Ted Jackson draws attention to the following important initiative and would welcome a direct approach from any interested person:-
“Members should be aware that the club is offering businesses in the area the opportunity to promote themselves both on the club’s new web page and on one tee of the course itself.
Seaton Carew Golf Club has taken tremendous strides in its efforts to bring the quality of the course back to its former glory We are proud of our current position of being one of the top 100 courses in the country.
Potential sponsors will be offered a complementary ‘four ball’ to ensure that they are aware of its current excellent condition on the newly restored ‘old course’ which will be our main course for this year.
The sponsors would be allocated one ‘hole’. Sponsors would also have their own section on the web ‘page’ of ‘their hole’ on which they will be able to promote their business. Their name would also appear on the ‘sponsored tee’ (probably as the yellow marker), and on a ‘Sponsors Board’, which is to be located on the outside of the clubhouse itself.
While the precise costs to become a sponsor have not been formally determined, they are likely to be in the order of £350/hole for one year, or £550 for two years.
Costs for the sponsors of Hole Nos 1 and 18 will clearly be higher, and the precise fee could well be in excess of double the normal yearly fee.
If your company or others you deal with are interested in the scheme, I would be pleased to discuss this matter further.”

COURSE MATTERS
Please make every effort to repair PITCHMARKS and DIVOTS. There are also boxes on the par threes to repair tee shots
Please conform to the guidance shown by the white lines short of the 10th green and generally avoid all unnecessary wear on tear on greens and surrounds. Tees are being rotated in the winter period to equalise usage wherever possible. We are trying to improve the apron area of many greens – so please keep off all sensitive areas where possible.
The Greens Committee are unhappy with the state of many bunkers on the course. Ted Lithgo has presented an excellent report on the existing bunkers and we are pursuing a number of improvements. Apart from a brand new tee at the Beach Hole tee the bunkers have been reorganised greenside.
There is an interesting experiment for the second right-hand bunker at the 17th hole (charity bunker). The bunker will be enlarged and re-shaped and astroturf will be laid very soon to improve the base of the bunker. If successful astroturf will be used in other bunkers.
