Three goals in the space of 10
first-half minutes gave Garden Village a glorious start to their match at local
rivals Ammanford on Wednesday night, but the second-half was a completely
different matter.
Dai Rimmer put Village one-up
with a header on 20 minutes before both Steven Evans (29') and Ashley
Richards (32') scored from close range. Ammanford pulled one back on 67
minutes through Cerison Davies but then with less than 10 minutes to play both sides had a man sent off
- Ashley Richards the unlucky Village player given his marching orders after
receiving a second yellow card. A David Evans own goal 5 minutes from
time made for a very tense finish but the boys in yellow held on to record their
first points on the road this season.
Garden Village welcomed back Marc
Lloyd and Ben Brown to the side after the pair had missed out on Saturday's win
over Porthcawl Town. Paul Bromage was absent and Mark Snell kept his place in
goal ahead of Matthew Martin.
It was the home side who started the
match brightest, causing Village numerous amounts of problems in the opening 10
to 15 minutes, but they were made to pay for not turning their chances into
goals 20 minutes into the game; David Rimmer smashed his header from
10-yards through the arms of the Ammanford 'keeper after getting on the end of
Marc Lloyd's corner to score his third goal in two matches.
Mark Snell was forced into making a
brilliant save low down to his right 2 minutes later but the visitors doubled
their lead soon afterwards. Dayle Selvage played a brilliant ball to Ben Brown
from inside his own half which then saw the frontman feed Steven Evans
through on goal, the former Skewen man kept his cool before slotting the ball
underneath the oncoming goalkeeper.
A third goal was to come soon after
when Village caught the home side on the break; Marc Lloyd took the ball right
down the left-hand side to the by-line before crossing to Ashley Richards,
who beat one man in the box before striking his second goal of the season from
close range. He could easily have had a second 7 minutes before half-time but
instead brought a fine save out of the goalkeeper after playing a neat one-two
with Richard Uffendelle.
Village started the
second-half brightly but were unable to create many real chances of note. Mark
Snell was rarely called into action but was forced into making a great save on
the hour, pushing the ball away for a corner. From the corner itself ex-Barry
defender Gary Davies headed over the top.
It was a fairly quiet
half compared to what we saw in the opening 45 minutes but mid-way through the
second-half Ammanford gave their visitors a scare by scoring, Cerison Davies
tapping home from close range to start the Carmarthenshire side's fightback.
They did start to play the neater football but found it hard to build on the one
goal that they scored.
With less than 10
minutes remaining both teams had a man sent off - what's a local derby without a
good sending off! Liam Preece was given his marching orders first, receiving his
second yellow after tangling with Ashley Richards. The Village striker was to
follow after his part in the incident who also received a second yellow.
David Evans was
unlucky to put through his own net 5 minutes from time after attempting to to
clear Cerison Davies' effort which made for an extremely tense finish. The
10-men of Ammanford came right at us with all guns blazing in the final 5
minutes plus 3 added on for stoppages, but we defender with our lives and just
managed to hold on for our first away win in five attempts since last winning on
the road in mid-April.
