Hi,
I used to play for the Rovers many years ago for a while and now live in MN, USA. I wonder if it's possible if there is a way of sending you money to be able to have a couple of the rugby shirts sent to me with the monkey hanger badge/logo. Nobody over here has much of a clue as to anything really English and it would be really cool to have something from home.
Thanks, Bill Brown.

Frankie Johnson has already commenced a detailed stock collection service for his online clothing supplies.
the stock comes from the washing lines of some famous areas including Clavering and Bishop Cuthbert.
only single items are available but there clean but need ironing.

Are you sure the items from Bishop Cuthbert are really clean?
I thought they cudn't afford to have washing machines cos of the mortgage repayments and the escalating cost of beetroot for their sarnies! :oD

Thanks for the response. I will be in touch Tuesday by mobile to Albi if thats ok? Looking forward to meeting you both & all at Rovers. The only problem is the training time as Luke does'nt finish school till 6pm when they're at school, but I'm sure we can work something out.

I hope you don’t mind me approaching you with an unusual request. In my capacity as Hon Historian of Cricket Scotland I am trying to obtain for our website a photograph of all 641 cricketers who have ever played for Scotland. With the help of many people I have obtained the vast majority, but am still seeking the last 63. Not surprisingly they are all of a bygone era.
One of my missing players is Angus McGregor, who played once for Scotland in 1892. I understand he also played rugby for Hartlepool Rovers around about the same time. Is there any chance you have a photograph of him, perhaps in a team photograph? I appreciate it is a long shot after more than a century, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Here’s hoping,
Neil Leitch

Calling all Rugby clubs. The 2009 Social Rugby World Championships are
less than 9 months away and as yet we have not received your entry
THE SOCIAL RUGBY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009 - www.srwc2009.co.za
Just when you thought you’d never get to represent your country in a rugby
tournament, a letter like this arrives.
BigFish Sports Productions is looking for social rugby teams from around
the world to take part in the first ever Social Rugby World Championships.
To be held in Cape Town, South Africa during June 2009. The tournament –
hosted in one of the world’s most beautiful cities – promises to be packed
with great running rugby, good times and teams from across the globe. If
you think your team matches the profile of a social rugby team please
continue reading. (if not please feel free to forward this mail to clubs
that you think might fit the bill)
FOR THE LOVE OF RUGBY & BEER
As rugby fans, we recognise that professional rugby has certainly made its
mark worldwide – in fact, during 2007 the television audiences for The
Rugby World Cup in France grew to a record high 4.2 billion viewers, with
over 2.2 million spectators attending the games live. Every year more new
countries are introduced to our beautiful sport.
Yet, there remains no international outlet for the dedicated players of
the social game – aged 18 to 39 who don’t compete for first team honours –
the competitors who simply play for fun.
WHEN & WHERE WILL THE TOURNAMENT BE HELD?
13th to the 26th of June 2009. The Social Rugby World Championships 2009
will coincide with the British and Irish Lions Tour of South Africa and be
hosted by Villagers RFC – Cape
Town’s second oldest rugby club.
Coinciding the tournament with the Lions tour will allow your team the
opportunity to enjoy much of this tour whilst enjoying 5 social games of
your own!
PLEASE NOTE: Visit the official website www.srwc2009.co.za for a full
match schedule. We have attempted to maximise your team’s enjoyment of
South Africa by leaving British & Irish Lions Test Match Dates free for
your team to travel to the venues to enjoy the game live (should you
wish). There are two warm-up games in Cape Town that we have accounted for
in the schedule. We have also allowed time for sight seeing opportunities.
But, take note, that all televised British & Irish Lions matches will also
be shown at the SRWC2009 on Big Screens in the Fan Park.
WHO IS TAKING PART?
The inaugural tournament will boast 16 international teams – from
traditional rugby playing nations in the northern and southern hemisphere
as well as from emerging and new world teams. Teams will compete for the
honour of being crowned Social Rugby World Champions.
Teams to Date:
The Galetti Fourths (RSA)
Shebeen Boys (RSA)
Glenwood Old Boys (RSA)
Potbellied Pigs (HongKong)
Dubbo Rhino's (Aus)
Carlton Panthers (NZ)
Vienna Celtics (Austria)
Tempe Devils (USA)
Atlanta Old Whites (USA
Seybarians (Seychelles)
ENTRY FEES & DEADLINES:
EARLY REGISTRATION SPECIAL:
Deadline: Sunday, 31 August 2008
Total Amount Payable: ZAR 15 000
Deposit: ZAR 5000
PLEASE NOTE: Balance due by 31 December 2008
STANDARD REGISTRATION:
Deadline: Wednesday, 31 December 2008:
Total Amount ZAR 20 000
Deposit: ZAR 5000
PLEASE NOTE: Balance due by 1 March 2009
HOW WILL THE TOURNAMENT WORK?
• All teams can include a maximum of 30 players. Feel free to bring along
support.
• There will be a total of 40 games with each team playing 5 games
guaranteed.
• 16 international teams will compete in 4 pools of 4 teams each.
• The teams in each pool will play against one another in a round robin
fashion.
• Once the pool stages have been concluded semi-finals will be held
for Cup, Plate, Bowl, Shield competitions.
• Thereafter finals and 3rd/4th play-off games will take place.
• All competing teams may also enjoy a day out with previously
disadvantaged communities holding coaching workshops in township areas in
and around Cape Town.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not an ‘Old Crocks’ tournament but aimed at 18 – 39
year olds playing the game for fun.
TRAVEL DETAILS
Should your team choose to take part we will be able to provide help with
accommodation, transport and sightseeing tour bookings. Our preferred
travel operator has a host of affordable options available and will liaise
with you directly to make your experience memorable.
We are also currently negotiating discounted rates for all visiting teams
to some of Cape Town’s attractions, services, etc. Attractions and
activities range from tours to the Cape’s best-loved wine farms to sky
diving, scenic walks up Table Mountain to white shark diving adventures.

I have a five and a half year old son (who is tall for his age) who is desperate to play rugby. What age do children need to be to join in and what would it entail?

Nina,
The youngest age group is Tag Rugby which is played by children who are 7 and up.
This is a non contact version of rugby.
For more details please contact me directly frontrowleg-end@tiscali.co.uk and I will put you in touch with Gerry McMullen who co-ordinates the Junior Section.

Hello
I am interested in rugby history during the 1970s, in particular the 1973-74 season, and was wondering if you could help with my inquiry. I would like to obtain a copy of the club's fixture list for that season.
Any help you can give would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Lee Hurst

Binaryslass,
I suggest you arrange to come down the club during the summer when the same age group as your son start to train. I'll talk to the coach for that age group and find out when they will be training and let you know.

The U9's (going up to U10's) will be getting together from June 28th. They start by just playing games together and start rugby training in August. If you email your contact details to info@hartbio.com I'll give you the name and number of the coach and you can have a chat with him.
